phoenix
Societies obsession with youthfulness is a heap of sh*te. It has given me a pain in the butt these last several decades. Hopefully things will settle down and all age groups will get the respect they deserve. Currently it's the kindergarden kids I feel sorry for. Link to comment
BrianFaePerth
There are contributors of all ages in society, just as there are fowk of all ages who are drains on society. No looking at anyone in particular Link to comment

phoenix
Maggie's getting the blame again. I seem to remember it was she who said more power should be deployed to the young and that it did not make good economic sense for people to wait until they were old before they had any disposable income to play with. Before then , it was the over 50s , if anybody , who had most of the power and money. There was obviously some sense in all of that but I don't think we got the balance right. We ended up with the 'too much , too soon' society and are now suffering the consequences. Link to comment

phoenix
Agree with most that's been posted but I don't get this concept that elderly folks should get respect BECAUSE of their elderliness? I've met arseholes in their 60's and 70's so how about just giving abody of every age normal common respect until they prove otherwise? Just cos they're closer to being deid than being born doesn't mean they automatically get "more respect". Bizarre. I guess it depends on how the elderly have lived their lives , rocket.....some will deserve more respect than others.....that's karma , isn't it? A lot of the really old and infirm do not get the respect necessary regardless , the really old need a lorra compassion. And there's a limited supply. Link to comment

tainboy
Why does anyone need respect or compassion? They are not the same and should not be mistaken. Compassion is definitely required as you get older (and infirm). It's necessary to get through day-to-day things able bodied (and minded) take for granted. Respect however is entirely reciprocal. It's given as well as earned. Link to comment
