GreigLawson
HATE it when the premiership gets described as the 'best league' in the world, The quicker they stop telling themselves this the better!. It may be more powerful and slightly more exciting than la liga has a touch of class about it. Glad to see that wee kid on sky sports news not choosing to go in to english football but to go across and sign for barcelona!. He looks to have an extremely bright future and him moving across to play for barcelona instead of staying in england to learn his trade might be the final wake up call that they need to change the philosophy!. Teach kids technique and control, Not pace and strenght. Link to comment

Betty Swallicks
The atmosphere in the EPL is shyte! Its one of the most sterile leagues in the world. Spanish fitba has better technical players and Italian football prob has the best atmosphere of the big leagues so I don't think you can say one league is better than another. Link to comment
tup
''English Premier League....what A Joke! '' not as big a joke as the s.p.l. There we have it, cutting edge analysis. Why is our league a joke? Why do our players get mercilessly abused by their own fans? Because they prefer to watch Premiership teams, where the standard is higher, and fail to appreciate the level we operate at. Why does nobody turn up to games scheduled for quarter to twelve on a Sunday morning? Why are the games scheduled then? Did anyone ask Scottish supporters their opinion on this drastic alteration of our footballing landscape? Link to comment

tup
Yes I really need you to answer it, with a proper, well thought out reply, instead of a glib, bullet point dismissal. Why, not right now, but over a period of time, has our league been run into the ground? Drastic alteration = the movement of kickoff times at short notice to suit television, without any consultation with those likely to attend, which massively impacts on the attendance and atmosphere of the game itself, which is what all this sh*t is f**king meant to be about. THFC6061
I think a good guide as to the relative strengths of a National League are the amount of top class players who ply their trade there. In this regard, the Premier League is way ahead of all its other European rivals when you look at the total number of players who have participated in FIFA World Cup Finals tournaments. For example, in South Africa 2010, there were no less than 115 players affiliated with English clubs, compared with 85 from Germany, 79 from Italy and 60 from Spain. In fact, the total number of players with English clubs over the past 8 World Cup Finals is 576 out of a total of 5,023. Perhaps, but then again the money genereated by the Premier League stems from the fact that many of the World's top players are there, which makes it an attractive draw for foreign TV markets around the globe, C-3PO. Basically none of these superstars have been paid for, and the clubs, and the real fans, will suffer for years because of this era of excess. Throw in criminals desperate to launder cash, like Abramovich, and you have the 'best' league right enough. Best at sharp practice. And the last stat is irrelevant. England has the lowest percentage of homegrown talent plying it's trade domestically in world football, at around 25%. It's basically subscribers paying a heap of cash to watch foreigners strut their stuff in armchairs to the absolute detriment of that league's long term security, and the footballing landscape as a whole. The EPL teams owe an amount of money to banks or individuals roughly equivalent to all the other leagues in mainland Europe combined. It's a castle of sand, propped up by dirty money. Link to comment

Sky pumped money into the English league as they knew the money to be made off the domestic audience alone. This money attracted the top boys from other countries and thats why the TV markets around the globe buy the rights to games. Link to comment
tup
Now that Murdoch's methods are clear, he won the contract initially by outbidding his rivals. No doubt he knew the amount they intended to offer through surveillance. What we have is a fix, with it's purpose when engineered being to draw as much cash as possible from the humble supporters pocket, and deposit it in the pockets of the obscenely rich. Link to comment
Betty Swallicks
The "event" of a match in the EPL is sh*te though. Watch motd or a live game and the "glory teams" grounds are full of tourists, wifies, kids and folk who have only found football since SKY which is reflected in the atmosphere and passion generated. tup
He's being deliberately evasive, and wilfully ignorant. Of course none of these players would be here without false money, none of them would want to be. The ONLY way to get them here is by offering stupid cash. This cash comes from a combination of massive borrowing and injection of private funds by grossly wealthy individuals. So, behind the gloss, lies a web of utter avarice. Link to comment
