Scots holidaymaker drowns in Spanish pool

A 21-year-old man from Glasgow has drowned while on holiday on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

Barry Hesford is believed to have been pulled unconscious from a hotel swimming pool in the resort of San Antonio at about 19:00 on Monday.

The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet clear, and police in Spain are investigating.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm the death of a British national on 1 August."

Mr Hesford is believed to have been staying at the Aparthotel Bahia in San Antonio. The 63-room complex has two swimming pools.

A Facebook page - RIP Barry Bhoy - has been set up by friends in memory of the Celtic fan. So far, it has attracted more than 1,000 tributes.

f**king hell i stayed at those apartments 4 year ago. Don't understand how this could have happened though?

Loads of reasons - intoxication making swimming more difficult, could have taken a fit whilst in the pool, fell in and knocked his head rendering him unconscious.

Maybe Barrymore was prowling the pool :sherlock:

As MDAL says hunners of reasons, remember we were in Ibiza way back my mate dived off the bar above the pool into the pool approx 20 ft above pool, sheer madness, he was lucky water was deep enough.

Well it said he was discovered at 7pm and if the place hasn't changed in that time since i was there, there is a 24hr barman in that area who would have seen him and the place you'd think would have been busy as it was really nice. Could understand if it happened at the beach or later at night or something but just seems really strange that.

Had to laugh at the bit in bold.

Anyway maybe the boy simply couldn't swim. I was surprised recently to see just how many people I worked with who couldn't swim. Surely it's a basic skill everyone is taught as a child. :dontknow:

Not sure what purpose the Facebook page serves though other than attract journos lifting poorly punctuated tribute messages.

Good point re swimming , do schools still provide swimming lessons?

I can swim, although not really the strongest but would be surprised if it was a case of that being the reason as i'm quite sure it wasn't a deep pool. As MDAL said it could have been a case of intoxicated and fell in but still seems bizzare considering the number of staff that would have been on at the time.

With the facebook page Barry Bhoy (pretty poorly named IMO) being set up it's got me thinking that surely a Bhoy would float. :dontknow:

On a serious note, i heard that michelle mone is going to pay to fly the bhoys body home, cause his family can't afford it - i thought that was nice.

On a less serious note, i would like to make michelle mone moan (like katherine jenkins hitting a high note):

A nice gesture.

People shouldnt be allowed abroad on holidays without evidence that they have travel insurance in place.

That would end the many sob stories that arise so often.

Dunno like, i think she's just a genuinelly altrustic and philanthropic person:

1) Saving the mulgrew children from freezing their balls off in a car in the winter.

2) Paying for her bretherin to come home when they can't afford it.

Nice lady. Great tits. End of.

I f**king hate Facebook tribute pages. Made for, and created and populated by, utter c**ts IMO.

So the Harcus tribute page I just set up just in case will not be welcomed then?

Agree. Even get f**king idiots going on snowboarding holidays and things like that without insurance. Baffles me why you would do it to save
