the dutchman had a commeroative evening last night with big guns of ajax, holland and man united past and present rolling up to bid him farewell.

 

i think he was a most underrated keeper. why juve ditched him and paid over 30m for buffon, still baffles me. a great keeper and prob as good as schmeichel for united.

 

5 champions league finals, 2 winners medals and countless good performances. united and football will be poorer for their loss.

i seem to remeber the fees being 7m and 2million i think for his fulham transfer and then mufc switch. not sure which was which.

and juve still paid way over the odds for his replacement.

Rejected Utd to sign for Juve. In fact i met him and the rest of the Dutch squad in Amsterdam in '99 whilst he was still at Ajax and a couple of kids asked him if he was going to sign for Man Utd but he just smiled. Then a few months later he was in Turin.
