wilm1542
Apparently were still looking to bring one or two in on loan and perhaps do a swap deal for a player with the club that Aluko goes to instead of receiving compensation for him. This was apparently talked about at the fans meeting on Saturday.... (On AberdeenMad) Link to comment

Ke1t
Duncan Fraser says it's not quite as simple as Milne putting his hand in his pooch to give Brooner cash to go get new players as the bank needs cash and if the see Milne doing that then they will demand cash. The thing is it's NOT Milne's pooch, it's Aberdeen's. No-one expects Milne to do anything except kill Aberdeen Football club stone dead. The idea of Milne spending Milne's money is laughable. Jack_Glass
Loan Paton out or sell him n bring a decent EPL striker in on loan. I'll feel a lot better once we've got left back, left winger and the hope our new striker is the real deal and not another useless striker to match the ones we already have. Honestly hope next season CB has the balls to sell/replace Mackie & Paton and to either bench Foster or sell him. A mistake ridden captain ain't gonna do the team or the fans any good. spamspamspam
I just hope they've been smart with the type of contract they offer this boy. We need to start getting the 3 year deals out there or at least 2 with the option of 1 more all going well on the pitch for the player. Sick of the 1 and 2 year deals we hand out. All they do is leave us exposed to losing a player for nowt. I know Vernon has been getting a bit of stick for not looking sharp and being a bit absent on the pitch the first 4 games but he scored 16 goals for us last season, will hopefully be there or thereabouts this season and will be able to walk out the door at the end of this season for nowt. Not saying he's worth millions but plenty of 15+ goal scorers in the SPL have moved for 750K+, we cant afford to lost out on that sort of fee nor can we gamble on trying to find another player who can score more than 5-10 a season which is the sort of striker we've had for years before Vernon came along. As for player no8, we still havent officially signed no7 yet... Link to comment

Bringing players in on 1 or 2 year deals is ok on the condition you move really quickly, ie within the first few months of them settling in, to extend the deal if they are playing regularly to a good level. For some reason we bring them in for 1 or 2 year deals then just let that run down to last 6 months regardless of how well they are playing. In fact we are more likely to offer new long term deals to crappy squad players than get in quick to tie up a good prospect. SO SO Frustrating. Link to comment
Avram
No, a player only wants to sign on for 1 or 2 years to ensure he's not tied down to the club for too long. Aberdeen would love to keep their better players for as long as possible but a 3 year deal gets rejected. Think about it. Link to comment
dervish
1 year deals are shyte for all concerned. It's basically like always nailing the last girl left at the night club, no commitment but no glory. Link to comment

Sort of a ctach 22 situation (i think), If a player on a 1 year contract has an outstanding season he will move elsewhere but if he has an average season he will sign a longer deal.... wilm1542
eh? Well we want our players to do really well but if they do then they will most likely move on to another club when their contract expires. But if our players don't perform well where's the desire to give them another contract... I guess if we do well then players might want to stay? I've lost track where i'm going with this btw Link to comment

Its not hard to do if your club has a clue whats what. You bring players in on 1 or 2 year deals. And make a quick assessment during the first 6 months. If this is done properly you can sign up the right ones and let the others play out the 1 or 2 years to see how they go. Clubs like Motherwell, Hibs, Dundee Utd manage to do this. Think about it. Exactly why it takes some acumen, which Afc clearly lack, to get in quick when a player is playing well and looks the real deal to offer him an extension. And equally when some gype happens to be having an ok spell we need to have the brains to let him play himself out of contention OR prove he can do it consitantly to earn a deal. Its not that hard. Smaller and better run clubs manage it fine. Link to comment
wilm1542
As a club we've been about short term thinking for as long as I can remember, so I can't see why we should expect long term commitment from any player. If we look for some journeyman to fill a shirt for a season, then that's what we'll get. The timing of our negotiations is bloody awful too, even in June this year the noises from the club suggested we still had no idea about Maguire's intentions - FFS do we not speak to our players during their actual contracts? Even if we have a good season this year, it'll be the same rebuilding job needing done next summer. Depressing Surely we won't lose ALL the players who are on 1 year deals?? Timing of contract negotiations will be key (oh and also how our season pans out too!) Link to comment

Dandyesque
So that will be Chalili, Arneson, Mawene and Osborne from our new signings all out of contract at the end of the season and free to speak to other clubs in a little over 4 months. Who else is on that list? Langfield, Mackie, Vernon, McArdle - that's almost a full team - any others? Link to comment

Is it not possible to have written into the 1 year deal that this can be extended to a 2yr deal if after 6 months the club wish to do so i.e if the player proves decent then there's an automatic 1 year extension added to the deal and if not then the player is free to leave after the year? Theoretically, yes. But in practice, I imagine a player would just take us the ECHR if we tried to enforce a contract extension against their will? Probably deem it an unfair contract term Link to comment

Probably deem it an unfair contract term They don't need to agree to it in the 1st place though. If they read the contract and it stated what I have said then they could just say no to those terms.
