too many to name any one in particular.

think of big countries like italy, france, spain etc. and the best thing about them is that there are hundred of places worth visiting that arent well known.

theres a lot more to france than just paris. ditto netherlands and amsterdam. engalnd and london etc.

absolutely! but this is getting lost, literally.. i don't mind wandering and lost in Paris. you bump into something interesting sooner rather than later. i'd mind like hell being lost in some other cities.

Canberra? I've been there and it's one of the most boring, souless cities in the world.

It's not unpleasant mind, the city centre quite a nice place to spend and evening chilling out.... but there isn't much there. It's like the Australian version of East Kilbride.

mmm.. you missed the point with Canberra i'm afraid: "with its systems of circular roads, Australia

Aye, I was reading some book about Australia by Bill Bryson and he said it's dull as dishwater in Canberra.

Tillydrone.

Wander through the rustic, medieval ruins. Enjoy the locals dabbling in their home grown medications, like going back in time. The inhabitants will frequently help you in removing items that you don't want, such as bikes, TVs, money etc that you have kindly left locked and out of sight for them to peruse.

They will also help out the bin men by ensuring that anything of value left outside to be binned such as an old sofa, tv or chair is put to a good home.

The locals are multicultural with accents from Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Poland can frequently be heard at 3am in the morning.

Tillydrone - You wouldn't want it any other way.

It's a weird place. A government city. As I said, it's not unpleasant.... there is low crime, it's amazingly clean, there are no real rough or dangerous suburbs and the city centre is very compact, with plenty of bars, restaurants, etc, etc. However, it just feels so sterile. Hard to explain unless you've been there.

That's pretty much what I read. If I was to plan an trip to Oz i don't think i'd bother with it. It's a bit of a pain in the arse to get to as well isn't it? A bit out the way or a big D-tour for your main routes?

Melbourne - Sydney - and the coast up to Brisbane would be on my radar. The other way round probably.

Nah, Canberra would be a complete waste of time. Noone goes there unless they have some sort of business to attend to.

The route you suggested is what most folk go for... however, Western Australian is well worth a visit too! The best beaches and some amazing vineyards!
