Russian Commandos Bone Somali Pirates

This video is outrageous. It shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somalian pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker:

The international protection ships that patrols the waters there would not interfere because they feared there could be casualties . So the Russian Navy Commandos freed their compatriots and the tanker . Moved the pirates back to their own pirate ship, the Russians then searched the ship for weapons and explosives, and then left the ship and sank it with all remaining pirates on-board

They used some ancient anti-piracy law, where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates as justification.

Don't know if this sh*t is real or not. But this is how we should be dealing with these c@nts.

Cunts..... these are men who have mouths to feed and have to resort to this support their families

Violence begets violence.

What these Somali young men need to do is get Economics Degrees and build their country a decent economy. It's harder than piracy and takes longer but ought to result in less loss of human life and robbing of the innocent.

The real disgrace is deploying naval destroyers and frigates (ships designed from the keel up for the World War II-esque business of blowing up other destroyers/frigates/submarines), fitted with the most sophisticated military hardware and weaponry on the planet, to take on skiffs and speedboats and a smattering of RPGs and AK-47s, when it's clearly a job for a (the) Coastguard. Case in point, Royal Navy Auxiliary ships (They support the actual "fighting ships" of the Navy, and are effectively normal tankers with a light machine gun and some marines on-board) have captured/repulsed numerous pirate attacks in the Horn of Africa region. Criminal use of assets and a waste of funds.

Hitchins , in the sample chapter of 'Arguably' I downloaded , has just informed me of the Barbary Wars. Now I'd heard of the Barbary Coast( think Mediterranean - Morocco , Algeria , Libya and Tunisia ) but was ignorant of the Wars. The first wars that the U.S. were involved in and what galvanised them to create their Navy.

The Barbary Wars were a series of wars between the United States of America and the Barbary States of North Africa in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. At issue was the Barbary pirates' demand of tribute( ransom ) from American merchant vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. If ships failed to pay, pirates would attack the ships and take their goods, and often hold crew for ransom. United States naval power attacked the fortified pirate cities and extracted concessions of fair passage from their rulers. The administrations of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison undertook the actions against the Barbary States. Jefferson led the first, from 1801-1805, against pirates' cities in what are today Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria. Madison directed forces for the second war in 1815.

It's from the Barbary Wars that the U.S. Marines get their 'Hymn' from , the oldest in U.S. military history:

From the Halls of Montezuma,

To the shores of Tripoli;

We fight our country's battles

In the air, on land, and sea;

First to fight for right and freedom

And to keep our honor clean:

We are proud to claim the title

Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze

From dawn to setting sun;

We have fought in every clime and place

Where we could take a gun;

In the snow of far-off Northern lands

And in sunny tropic scenes;

You will find us always on the job

The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps

Which we are proud to serve;

In many a strife we've fought for life

And never lost our nerve;

If the Army and the Navy

Ever look on Heaven

Little known fact that the Netherlands and the UK effectively ended the Second Barbary War by threatening to blow up said Barbary States. Also the genesis for the idea that "Marines" could be amphibious assault troops, and not just the security-wing of the Navy.

And how would these coastguard boats you speak of fair against rocket launchers and grenades?

The Somali pirates have hauled in over

Exactly. In the old days they were all white.

But if your a pirate and your ship gets blown out of the water, you don't really have anything to complain about do you.. Fck them.

Not exactly. Hundreds of years ago muslim and african pirates used to attack English villages on the coast to capture women as slaves, ransom or as concubines for harems. (sex slaves)

Pirating was/is an inclusive profession.
