Daylight robbery:

 

Taxes used to be put on people dependent on how many windows a property contained. People realised that they could get a reduction in tax by bricking up their windows and robbing the taxman. (Modern day equivalent is going in the papers to say you live in a shithole)

The dimwits also made their houses darker due to having less light coming in due to bricked up windows.

 

Hence the term Daylight robbery.
