Nealey
Just ordered a new laptop but I decided against buying the software(fsecure) which was recommended by Debenhams when I placed the order. There is the option of buying it separately if I want ( Link to comment

Jaws
I've got AVG and it's just a good as anything you'd pay for. Why pay when you can get the same thing for free. Link to comment

NorthernLights24
I use Microsoft Security Essentials and have never had any problems. That is what I use as well. Used to have AVG but they didn't support 64 bit versions of Windows when I got my current PC, went for Avast! for a while but really hated the GUI, back to AVG but got tired of it consantly bothering me about the paid version. MSE does the job. Easy to use and you barely notice it is there most of the time, which is what I like from an anti-virus program. Link to comment
OddJob
I've just had Norton for years and tbh i've never had much problems with it. Link to comment
beer gut
Free AV software is ok but you get what you pay for at the end of the day. If you can afford it it's always better to purchase AV software. The best AV out there is NOD32. Can't fault it. Link to comment
tup
Software manufacturers are strapped for cash. They hold a board meeting at this time of crisis, folk are pirating the shit out of their products and turning a pound is becoming harder by the minute. 'What can we do? People are cunts, they won't pay for something they can rip off for fuck all' says some geek in six inch thick lense glasses who's replaced interaction with humans with virtual insanity and who has no social skills beyond his QWERTY hidey hole. 'What about wrecking folks computer systems covertly?' says some other tefal head in jesus sandals and white socks. 'Just for spite, get them back for making a cunt of the nerd fraternity' 'It's tempting' says some other whizzkid with bumfluff coming from his lugs to his chin in the form of a serious pair of unkempt pork choppers. 'Eureka' says the goth boffin in charge of this rabble of losers. 'Viruses, followed by our ever so helpful anti-virus software. We'll pump viruses out of one end of the factory, and get clean cut looking normal folk to sell this ice-to-eskimo esque product from the other whilst faux smiling through a set of Donny Osmond style pearlers. Folk will be falling over themselves to buy it' 'Never' says a little zit faced ginger twerp, himself involved in duplicity just the previous night when he gave himself seven lovebites with the hoover to dupe his fellow swots into thinking he has a life. wanderingscotty
As a frequent visitor to dodgy porn sites, my antivitus needs to be up to the job. I used to give notron money, but i still picked up an occasional virus so I switched to avg. They're new version, out 10 months ago was power hungry so my computer began to lag. Switch to Microsoft Security Essentials and it's great. Runs fast and in the backround. doesn't like motherless, but that's probably a good thing. Once a month I also run Malwarebytes anit-malware, superantispyware and ccleaner. ccleaner is a beast. Link to comment
granite sheep
Nortons is a load of shit, it managed to brick my laptop about a month after I got it. Cost me more than the software to get a guy to fix the computer! Since then it's been Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes all the way, never had a problem since Link to comment
thebladder
moved to Microsoft Security Essentials recently when I kept having problems updating AVG. Also run malwarebytes now and again if I pick up some adware from a dodgy website. Both free, not sure why any home user would pay for anti-virus software to be honest. Link to comment
beer gut
If you do a lot of online shopping using credit/debit cards then just pay for good security software. I've installed Avast, AVG, Clam, MSE on friends machines and they always end up coming back to me with viruses/spyware/malware. They probably catch 95% of things but they are free for a reason. phoenix
Never paid for protection in 16 years of surfing and only ever had minor and occasional problems. Started out with AVG , migrated to Avast and now with MSE. Mind you , I shop a lot online but never do online banking , altho' I feel the heat from my bank to do so. Link to comment

Jack_Glass
Use anything but Norton... that's worse than getting an actual virus. lol...i have to agree with this, it digs in deeper than a tick and i would never recommend it, very bulky programme and can mess your system up when removing it. I had to get Nortons removal tool way back when i had XP sp3 to clean all the files it left behind. I use AVG & Windows Defender together on both my 32bit & 64bit systems. Plus it's also an idea to use a browser like firefox with some additional security plugins added and build up layers of protection so as not to reply on one programme. Link to comment
DD1903
Just changed to the microsoft one last week. Was fed up getting error report every 5 minutes from AVG, which up til then had been great. So far the Microsoft one is doing not a bad job Link to comment
OddJob
I've binned Norton as my subscription was ending this week and got Microsoft Security Essentials and it's working a treat. Good stuff guys Link to comment
