V for Vendetta
Surprised at Collins getting involved at this level. I think it'd be interesting to have got Collins working along with Knox and Brown. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17022133 First Division Livingston will announce on Tuesday that former Falkirk and Hibernian boss John Hughes is their new manager, BBC Scotland has learned. He will be joined by another former Easter Road manager, John Collins, who will become director of football. A formal announcement is expected to be made at their West Lothian stadium at a media conference at 1230 GMT. The manager's job became vacant when the club sacked Gary Bollan on 5 February. GK55
Always had a bit of time for Collins....good appointment for Livi. Link to comment
Byrne Baby Byrne
Could be a good appointment. Depends on the attitude of the players. Whether they want an easy wage or want to do something. Link to comment
Ingolfsson
A very impressive coup for Livingston and they may just be forgiven for the Bollan sacking now. Not that I shed a tear, horrible arab hun wank, but the Scottish fitba fraternity seemed a bit miffed. Will be strong contenders for 1st Division next season, and with 2 of County, Falkirk and Dundee plus Hamilton kickin about it really isn't the season to get relegated from the SPL. So, fingers crossed Hearts follow Rangers' lead shortly, the ten point deduction would put them in the mixer particularly with the fire sale and redundancies that would inevitably follow. Then might not see the cvnts for a few years. Link to comment
tup
Pair of clowns, they'll fail miserably. Have that club not learned their lesson regards spending money that they dinna have? I can see their thinking, a play on the good cop/bad cop combo, suave faux-sophisticate twat/pig ignorant thick bastard. It won't work. Link to comment
Ingolfsson
Hughes did an excellent job with Falkirk, it would be hard to deny that. I think Livingston will be a good place for him to recover after the Hibs letdown (although he did get them in to Europe first season). Collins, in my opinion, can be an asset to the Scottish game. He has a forward thinking philosophy and it was a disgrace that he was overthrown by the Michael Stewart-led spoiled brats at Hibs. If taken seriously and respectfully, he can be a revolutionary in professional attitudes in Scotland. I do accept your point regarding finances as the pair will not have come cheap. The two of them will see this as a stepping stone to get them back in to the (relative) big time with either a top half SPL club or Championship/League One outfit. Link to comment
tup
I think both are far too single minded to work together. It should have been one or the other, I don't understand Collins as DoF at all. It smacks of fear on his part, of the playing squad and their attitudes. So Hughes is in to do the donkey work. But they will be looking to recruit players, how can they do that when they have no money? Link to comment
tommo1903
Hibs are shite. Livingston are shite. That is all I have to add. Link to comment
tup
No player can take seriously a clown who runs round the pitch bollock naked live on the national evening news as some sort of prank whilst Hazel Irvine tried to ignore it. He should have been on the A-list for that. Making him perfect to manage Hearts. Link to comment
tup
They will only do well if they are given large sums of cash to spend. Which defies logic when you consider where Livvy have just emerged from. Link to comment
Ingolfsson
That must have been about 17 years ago. I agree he doesn't sound the most articulate, in fact he sounds like he should be washing windows, but his managerial record is decent. He had a slender budget at Falkirk and did well, particularly with loan players. Granted, he is unlikely to unearth another Stokes but I'd expect him to put together a competitive squad on a shoestring nonetheless. Director of Football is a notion that has never really worked in Scottish or English football so I do share some skepticism there. I have high expectations for Collins though and if it works well at Livingston I could easily see these two as our next management team... Link to comment
tup
If their intention is to wring more from the same players Bollan worked with, it will fail. If they get big money they will have a shout of promotion. It's on the surface of it a daft move, they had stability at least, unless there is someone behind it in terms of finance. But they should have learned their lesson with Dominic Keane, false promises built on a castle of sand. Link to comment
Foster14
I'd hate to be in the middle of a conversation between the two of them... Link to comment

minijc
Collins is a proper football man, very clever and this role should work well for him and Livi, believe he has some quality ideas on football and fitness. Link to comment
