It is true. The deal includes a stipulation that there are 4 old firm games in the league each season so the top 6 would have to be cancelled should one of them end up in bottom 6.

Basically the TV deal sets in stone that Rangers, regardless of any circumstance whatsoever, can NEVER be relegated from the top flight.

 

I've no idea as to the legality of this, but this basically means the SPL , Scottish football, the clubs WE support have absolutely NO integrity or sense of self-respect whatsoever.

 

If Rangers escape relegation to the bottom league in the event of liquidation and reorganisation then Aberdeen Football Club will never again see a single penny of my money. I'll switch to English Football and Scottish football, as far as I'm concerned can die.

Actually, it's even more pathetic than I first considered.

 

The terms of the deal specify that they play each other 4 times in the season, meaning the Huns technically can't even be allowed to finish outside the top 6.

 

So if we finished 6th and the Huns finished 7th, would that mean we would have to drop into the bottom six for the remainder of the season and allow Rangers to take our place because the TV deal demands it?

By my reckoning, if a Newco Rangers were to start again in the SPL, they couldn't give them a points deduction to ensure they stay in the top 6, so the 4 Old Firm games a season thing can be fulfilled.
