RUL
Recently started playing Sunday League after a few years off. Played two games, first was fine, bit sore after, second was fine first 45 but found myself to have totally run out of energy by half time, I could see the game unfolding and what to do but my legs were like jelly. The day after, today, I can barely walk, back's sore, groin on one side is sore, hamstring on the other side sore. I'm now 29 but weigh roughly the same as I did when I played a few years ago, so i'm not sure its's old age or what. I see a lot of folk here posting that play the game and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a) pre match, to ensure I don't run out of energy and b) recovery, surely I shouldn't be this sore after a game. Thought I may have another few years in me but got training in 2 days and reading that already Link to comment
Dynamo
Once you get fitness back you'll be fine. I sometimes get that when legs are mush and severe lack of energy when I run, usually cos I haven't eaten enough that day. Link to comment
Donmacca
I used to play rugby so slightly different preperation but I used to eat a big bag of wine gums the morning before a game just so all the sugar was in my body before playing giving me plenty of energy. Bananas are also good Link to comment

When you get home give your legs an ice bath. We just started back for pre-season training the other week, so I've been really struggling the last few weeks too! In australia they are obsessed with fitness. We're training Tues, Thurs and Sunday right now - Sunday was the first time we've touched a ball since we started! Link to comment

Bluto10
Decent, few folk have said bananas! Noticed few folk nailing red bull but they looked more fucked than me? red bull, monster and all the otehr energy drinks are the preserve of minks. i play football every week and have noticed myself as i get a bit older i am more liable to get a hanstring injury or sore back. recovery times are fine and never really have any lasting pain unless i pick up an injury or something which as i said happens more and more these days for me.
