Stoney
Lot of talk on the Brown thread that if he won the scottish cup that would make up for our awful league positition and would also make him the greatest manager in the last ?? years. So would the same apply if Darren Mackie were to score the winner in the cup? Link to comment

Stoney
Good fishing exercise for a quiet Friday afternoon. Nope just showing the hypocrits for what they are. Scottish Cup is enough to save their favorites skin, but not good enough for the player who scores the winning goal. Link to comment
StandFree1982
Not sure I see the correlation. Brown has had 1 full season. If he won the Scottish cup in that ONE season then I don't see why he wouldn't be hailed as a success. Darren Mackie has had over 10 years to do something worthwhile. He needs to score more than 1 goal to become a "legend" in the eyes of the fans. Link to comment
Kilkito
Not sure I see the correlation. there isn't any. I would love for the Dazzler to score the winner in the cup final, but it wont make up for years of shiteness. If Brown wins the cup, he's due a chance to add some flair, a decent striker and some full backs to the squad. Link to comment

Up with Brian Irvine, who was also a bit of a donkey. Fair enough? Link to comment

I don't think anyone has even used the word greatest, have they? He'd certainly have achieved something that no-one has in a long while and therefore would be due some gratitude for that. I'd extend the same courtesy to the 14 players that feature on the day itself but if we won with a goal coming from Langfield throwing it out to Mawene, controlling it on his chest to float the ball to Clark, to bounce it on his head like a seal down the wing, before crossing it to Mawene who had burst a gut to get in the box to again flick it back to Mackie 30 yards out for an overhead kick in one of the greatest goals ever seen, I'd quite happily see the back of all of them this summer still. Fair enough?I think that would be a fair assessment. If he scored the winner he'll be a "cup hero" and remembered for the odd couple of important goals he scored. He wouldn't be classed anywhere near the legend status due to the goal like your Eoin Jess, Joe Harper, Willie Willer and Leon Mikes of the past. Link to comment
Tord31
Nae looking for Mackie or Broon to get new contracts this season regardless of what happens. Mackie is gone next season regardless and Brown contract situation to be reviewed Sept/Oct ish. Link to comment
StandFree1982
Outside of the 80s we've won: 2 Scottish Cups3 League Cups Thats over 99 years (109-10 from the 80s). So we've won a cup, on average, every 19.8 years. If Craig Brown manages to win the Scottish Cup then he, quite rightly, should be heralded as a legend. No doubts about it. Link to comment

Either way, it's a pretty poor return. Link to comment

If Mackie scored in to win the Semi AND the Final then yes he'd become a "cult" legend in the sense of sometimes poor players have inspirational moments. Link to comment
ebbe
craig brown should be stood down as manager at the end of the season regardless of what he achieves in the cup. watching aberdeen under him is nothing short of torture and it can't continue or you'll have no-one at games accept afc_blockhead. giving mackie a start or even naming the useless prick as a sub is a sackable offence imo. mackie should be nowhere near a football pitch at this level ever again.
