dazzy_deff
Just a quick question for you financial types out there. The girlfriend just received her first pay for her new job and was emergency taxed on it. Does she have to wait for the end of the tax year to claim this back or does it usually correct itself out the following month!? Link to comment

Karl Fletcher
I actually thought it sorted itself the following month. Or sometimes it's staggered over the following two months. In summary, Link to comment
Big Man
No, if you get it sorted out straight away you'll get it back the following month. I've had this problem many a time. Either she needs to show her new employer her P45 from her old job, or she needs to complete a P46 get her new employer to sign it and send it off to HMRC. The only reason companies assign emergency tax codes is because they don't have enough information about someone. They'll keep using it until HMRC tells them otherwise. Definitely get it sorted immediately, she's probably missing out on a fair amount of moola... p.s. what's her tax code 810L? Link to comment
