We should be doing this. Discuss. could not agree more. look how well run every german team is and its down to this, think its only leverkusen and wolfsburg that arna owned mainly by fans. and some small 3rd or 4th tier team owned by red bull. great idea by the Saints fans hope it goes well for em! donsfan1988
Yep. I've been banging on for some time about Scottish Football adopting a bundesliga style constitution with stict rules areound finances and ownership. This is what the league should be focused on not what makes the most cash in the latest crappy deal from Sky. Also agree with the OP on fan ownership. Aberdeen has a good fanbase to pull this off (even though a lot of those fans are "sleepers"). Spam makes a good point about the debt but if Milne and co were really truly putting the club first they would find a way to ease or pay off the debt so they can facilitate a handover of ownership to fans. We could do it. Loads of well off 'sleeper' fans in Aberdeen who would subscribe to the idea of parting with 180 quid a year (15 a month) for 5 years to get the club back in our hands. 15,000 fans * 180 per year * 5 years = 13,500,000 13.5M to start off with. Plus packages whereby people can spend more... Obviously this is all pie in the sky...I'm just thinking aloud for the hell of it. Link to comment

spamspamspam
I know Barca are in serious debt so not the ideal model to follow but I think they do something along the lines of additional cash along with their season tickets for their community shares along with having members that donate on a monthly and yearly basis. We can't even get 15,000 fans to pay to watch the football. You are seriously deluded if you think there are 15,000 Aberdeen fans who want to own the club. Link to comment

(No!). 10,000 is their target, and they've already beaten it. There are plenty (20,000+ I reckon) dons fans who are currently disillusioned with the club; but would be happy to chip in to get the club into the fans hands and effect change al-la-Bundesliga. The number of fans In Aberdeen, north of Aberdeen, accross the UK and ex-pats who have the club close to their heat, but haven't been to Todders because the standard is pish and the club is run badly is huge. Many would love to contribute. Link to comment

slippers
Think the new stadium would have to be built and the debt re financed into a mortgage for it to become a possibility! Link to comment

smfc
Hi guys, was just browsing around a few other football forums because I'm a boring bastard and I wanted to see what any other clubs fans made of the Saints Co-Op proposal. Needed to register to address this point. Sorry I have to disagree. St Mirren don't get 10,000 to each match do they? (No!). 10,000 is their target, and they've already beaten it. The figure of 10,000 doesn't relate to the number of signups, it relates to the amount of pledges that will come from the members on a monthly basis. Currently the CIC has about 800 members (about a 1/3 of our core support). It's taken three long years to get this up and running, and I'm not even sure if it will work (though it's obviously preferable to the club being sold to some lunatic or asset stripper). I'd imagine that if AFC supporters were looking to adopt a similar model of ownership they'd be looking at a similar ratio of signups/supporters, so maybe a figure of around 3 1 Link to comment

The Highland Don
heard about this on Saturday on sport sound. Would love if Scotland adopted the Bundasliga approach to football It's a great model to follow in all honesty, the best thing that happened to German football was most of their clubs having wild debts and the fans then taking over. They focused on youth development and now look at their national squad. I'll be keeping an eye on St. Mirren and hope they do well with this approach. Link to comment
baconman
heard about this on Saturday on sport sound. Would love if Scotland adopted the Bundasliga approach to football Yup heard the boy talking about too and immediately thought we should do the same. SM is not at all being transparent about how the club is being run and what could be done to improve it. This type of scheme would be a huge improvement plus take all the power away from 1 person i.e. SM...................which can only be a good thing!! Link to comment
