Mad cap idea by Platini? Or could it work?

With the impending expansion of the tournament, it will reduce the amount of nations who could host it themselves but I think it is a crap idea. These kind of tournaments benefit from having a host nation (or two) and you can just imagine it already, Scotland (I hope we make 2020) v France being played in Istanbul or something like that.

Not too keen on the idea of this but think there are ways it could work.

 

There'll be 6 groups of 4 at Euro 2020. Each group could be hosted by a country from the group who would probably only need to provide 2 or 3 stadiums suitable for hosting such games. Even we could do that now.

 

After the group stage there will be the knock out stage starting with 16 teams. A single country could host that with 4-6 stadiums. There is obviously a risk that the host nation wouldn't reach this stage of the tournament though but that might not be a huge issue. However 4-6 stadiums would still allow smaller nations a chance to host this stage if they wanted too.

 

It would be kind of like the 1999 Rugby World Cup where ourselves, Wales, Frances, Ireland and England all hosted a group each - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Rugby_World_Cup

 

That is my wee idea but would prefer to stick to the current methodology of hosting.
