Ke1t
Who are your favourite orators, speakers, talky-dudes and speechifiers.. Ke1t
As per a previous thread, Geoge Galloway is great. I've always intended to listen to some of Winston Churchill's speeches, but never got round to it. A bit like Darren Mackie always intending reading Lord of the Rings. I've also never heard Churchill's speeches, but I see he won WW2, so his speeches must be good. Link to comment

FFS. You've hit a very important nail on the head there, and it exposes the hypocrisy/stupidity of the religious stance of moral obligation and the source of those imperatives. The religious community says, "Well, you can't possibly have a moral code, given you've no celestial diktat to follow. We, on the other hand, have that mandate, THAT'S why we don't kill, rape and steal." And you give that a moment of thought, and you come to the understanding that YOU don't kill, rape or steal, and you do it without the need for deistic influence. Then you follow that train of thought further, and what the religious are saying is that THEY will kill, rape and steal if they don't have their moral code dictated to them by their chosen deity. That would mean, simply by applying the religious' own argument, that the religious community is a seething body of murderous lunacy, kept in check only by the rules set out by a being that may or may not even exist. Whereas the secular have an innate set of ethical values that set them apart from, and above, their theistic counterparts. EDIT: I don't want this Topic to move from Oration towards Teleological Philosophy, so scratch that. Link to comment

Well, a lot of these religious sorts do seem to love nothing more than a good beheading/mass slaughter now and again. Fucking lunatics. Anyway, back to the topic in hand rather than deviating down this route. Link to comment

Dal Riata Don
Noam Chomsky: gets repetitive and doesn't rely on sound bites but still puts a powerful and controversial without raising his voice or flapping about.Never heard his speeches but saw a documentary about him: George Carmen QC could make a jury think that night was day: got Ken Dodd off and got Johnathan Aitken sent down. Ke1t
A lot of folks spoke of Mosley's skills of oration, but to be honest I've never seen it. It's possibly because he always seemed to be dressed up as the bad guy from a 30s Sci-Fi movie (or, I've just realised, Steve Jobs) that I never considered him in the same league as guys like Churchill or Hitler. Can't understand a word Hitler says, but you have to admit to wanting to exterminate the Jews after listening to his speeches, if only to get him to stop shouting. Aanyway, Mosley's surprisingly little known, I think. so, for clarity, he was Britain's answer to the popular Fascist movement that was sweeping around Europe in the early 30s. We come to your planet in peace! See if this impresses you... didn't me. But still, supposedly a great speechmaker, so I guess I'll stick him up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPB1jy4vmFA Link to comment

Monkey
Staying with the US President theme, Both Reagan and Kennedy seemed to have the ability to deliver great speeches. On reflection, I suppose it's not really surprising that those with the ability to "speak well" will be in a position to advance in politics. Link to comment

FFS.Yeah but tho folk who organise this prey on the weak and strong believers. The ones at the top are motivated by cash and fully aware religion is nonsense. If it was proved that Jesus etc was made up it would expose a lot of weak people to the "what's it all about line" and if people believe there's no consequences, other than being caught, it may lead to even more social problems. England's Rector Provinciae for Scotland. I hope you knacked him in the place where his balls might have been if he had any. I liked me some Tam Dalyell back in the day, but his uncanny similarity to Father Jack tended to distract me, as I expected him to stop mid-sentence and go "FECK OFF, CUP!" Link to comment
