The Afc Hall Of Fame

Recommended Posts

Was reminded by Wikipedia that we have a Hall of Fame... Not sure how accurate the following is though...

AFC Hall of Fame

Aberdeen inaugurated the Hall of Fame as part of the club's centenary celebrations in 2003. At the launch, it was claimed that over a five-year period, around 50 players and staff would be inducted.

Six players were inducted following the initial dinner in March 2004, and a further six were included in November 2004.

Jim Bett

Dick Donald

Joe Harper

John Hewitt

Drew Jarvie

Jim Leighton

Fred Martin

Ally Shewan

Teddy Scott

Neil Simpson

Eddie Turnbull

Willie Miller

Some glaring omissions in there most notably SAF... I'd also put Gordon Strachan and Alex Mcleish in there despite managing OF teams, I'd have Dave Halliday in there too, and maybe Bobby Clark...

Thoughts, suggestions ?

I dislike the Americanization of our sport/team.

I don't think we need a hall of fame: everyone has their own heros and knows who they are being able to agree/disagree about who was the best is all part of being a supporter.

I don't know, a bit of recognition to those that have served the club well is decent.

I dislike the Americanisation of your spelling of "Americanisation"

:dc:

That's fair enough. I am atrocious at spelling and being in Japan my computer's default orthographic setting is to American English.

My point about us not needing a Hall of Fame still stands.

I think the club should glory in it's history but I think that there are better ways to do so.

Aren't you an English teacher, or did I imagine that!

Yes I am. So (I think) being aware of my own deficiencies in language is something that keeps me aware of a learner's perspective. I'm not infallible. You'd be amazed at how many in this line of work think that they are; they tend to put less effort into their work which, as I see it, short-changes the students.

The worst teachers/ lecturers I've ever had were the ones who were either completely out of touch with the position of a student and/or couldn't understand why learning in their particular field was difficult.

No facts, just my opinion.
