He was jailed for terrorism by the racist, apartheid government. His activities allegedly included attacks on government and military targets. In the case of attacks on a brutal and oppressive regime you can't really side with the whites on this one. Even looking at this from an objective point of view, the guy was a freedom fighter.

 

In the same way the French Resistance was considered 'Terrorists' by the NAZIs, and the Insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan were considered 'Terrorists' by our own invading forces.

 

I'm sure Mandela did some bad shit too, but in the scheme of things, anything he did was nothing compared to the oppression meted out by the white minority governments in South Africa.
