Benefit Caps

some things would be better left unsaid.

The government are considering non payment of the winter fuel allowance to British pensioners residing in Spain and Greece.

I hate how the tories are taking flack for cutting the benefits, if it wasn't for the shambles the last lot left then they wouldn't have to even look at benefits, fact it we're skint and need to cut back, that involves all.

If Labour had won the election we'd be heading for a Greek style meltdown.

As for pensioners living abroad getting winter fuel payments I presume that's a joke? :dontknow:

I don't think anyone's giving the Tories much flack for this tbh. Working folk are sick of scroungers and the days of Labour being the party for the working man are long gone - party for minorities now. Benefits are supposed to be there as a safety net, not a way of life.

BBC went to the streets of Luton (where pay is lower than the uk average) and were surprised that everyone they interviewed agreed with benefit cuts! Just goes to show.

I hate that I sound like a fucking Tory but as someone who's self employed and frequently goes through quiet times in my work we've become a society that not only expects hand outs but feels deserving of them. My old man was always of the "If you can't afford it, you can't have it" mentality and still to this day, when I could have signed on I never did. The simple fact is whether you hate the fucking millionaires at the top or the supposed scroungers at the bottom, everyone's got a reason why we should or shouldn't do something. This country is fucked - it needn't be, but no one's got the balls to initiate the sort of benefit cuts and tax reforms that should happen. We should be a fucking wealthy country but we no longer have an export industry and everyone wants to take the shortest way possible.

See that "If one parent is earning more than 60k you lose your child benefits" thingy, how does that work if both parents income amount to over 60k, i.e. both on 30k+? Do they still lose the benefits or is it only based on a single parents income?

You get it as long as you're both under the threshold. If one of you earns more than the threshold it's stopped.

Again the thing for me is the statement "What you're entitled to..." You should be entitled to fuck all... You can be given, awarded, subsidised, assisted etc. But the fact that so many people are going "it's what I'm entitled to" is just wrong. Fix the flaws, eradicate the concept of entitlement and you might start to have a benefit system that benefits those who actually need it. And make sure you get the money off the millionaires too, although much like controlling the internet I think a singular government has fuck all chance of that.

Hmmm... certainly less homicidal than Thatcher's refusal to pay Scottish pensioners a winter heating allowance until it got several degrees colder than in England because the Scots are 'hardier'.

Yeppers, them 70 and 80 year old Scots laugh at hypothermia.

Well said, dj_bollox. Too many think the world/state owes them an existence. Nuke Glasgow and Liverpool, the biggest claimants of sickie on the planet. So what if a few hard working weegies and scouse get wiped out in the fall out. The greater good rules.

I think that this would solve about 40% of our countries problems.

And I'm not joking.
