Gun Control Recommendations

Vice President Biden will make recommendations to Obama regarding Gun Control next Tuesday. Should be a laugh riot. Most right-wingers are already seething that there's still a Nigger in the Whitehouse... and if he decides that some of them don't really need to have assault rifles and armour-piercing bullets then the result could be downright hilarious.

Yep. The USA is toast. It's unrecoverable. Even if there were a political will at the top... every bit of the congress and senate on both sides is bought up by the big lobby and industry groups over whatever issue you care to name.

You can have someone who genuinely wants to make a societal change (for the better of the people that is) and there good endeavours will just be fucked.

It'll either be pork barrelled to nothingness or thrown out because industry or lobbies don't like it and hence the politicians they pay on both sides won't vote it.

The lack of control or even knowledge of guns is only one of the many genies out of one of the many lamps there.

A genuine shame but think the country is irreparably broken.

He's packing his bags and getting ready for civil war man.

Shit. That is the *edited* video. He changed it to remove the bit at the end where he says

"I'm not letting anybody take my guns. If it goes one inch further I'm gonna start killing people"

This person posted the original video (along with some of his other juicy bits too) so you can hear and see it in all its batshit insane scary glory.

i just finished watching Obama's press conference. his plan seems fair enough: universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons and ammunition clips of a certain size, among other things.

it'll be interesting to see if he can move his legislation through a Republican-controlled Congress; if they can be non-partisan and think to the greater good and safety of Americans. he acknowledges you can still support these measures and the second amendment, (unlike the NRA that seems to what to make it an all or nothing debate in everything i've seen or read). i hope it works. :crossfingers:

and speaking of the NRA, it came out overnight with a new ad campaign/commercial:

It was entirely fair and reasonable. Get rid of military weapons in private hands, limit the size of clips to ten... hang on I was taking notes... universal background check and, I think, Obama alluded to more cops.

Here's how the NRA will spin it.

The government wants to take guns away from private ownership, keep records and private details of anyone who has a gun, then increase the number of cops while giving them increased powers.... it's the first step on the road to totalitarianism.

To sane individuals like you and me, Obama said nothing unreasonable. To the gun nuts that speech will have been the signal to stockpile guns n munitions.

Living in a state that likely rivals Texas for gun nuts, I know plenty people who would literally open fire on a any law enforcement officer who came to take their gun. My next door neighbour is approaching a pretty serious level of paranoia and dementia, and he has a gun. He's threatened to shoot my cable guy when he came to install new lines. Having a conversation with him is like talking to someone who should be heavily medicated ALL THE TIME, not allowed to own a handgun. But he does, and there's no mechanism in place to remove the gun from him for his and his neighbour's safety. One day someone's going to come to his door to talk about Jesus and end up with a .45 going off in his face.

The US boy accidentally shot his two-year-old sister to death with a rifle he had received as a gift last year, authorities said on Wednesday.

Gary White, a coroner in Cumberland County, Kentucky, said the children's mother was at home at the time and heard the gunshot when she stepped outside for a few minutes.
He said the rifle was kept in a corner, and that the family did not realise a bullet had been left inside it. The girl died of a single gunshot wound to the chest area.
Mr White also told the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper that the boy received the .22-calibre rifle – especially made for children – as a gift.
The shooting, while accidental, highlights a cultural divide in the US debate over gun control, which again became a major issue after 20 young children and six adults were shot dead at a Connecticut school in December.
While many urban and suburban areas work to keep guns out of the hands of children, it is not uncommon for youths in rural areas to own guns for target practice and hunting.
"Guns are passed down generations through generations. You know, you learn to start shooting a gun here at a very young age," Mr White said.
Cumberland County Judge Executive John Phelps, whose position is much like a mayor's, said it had been four or five years since there had been a shooting death in the county, which sits near the Tennessee-Kentucky state line along the Cumberland River.
Mr Phelps said the entire town was heartbroken, but added that it was not uncommon for children to own guns.
He said he knew the family well. He said the father works as a logger at a mill and also shoes horses.
The family lives in a grey mobile home on a long, winding road, surrounded by rolling hills and farmland that's been in the family since the 1930s.
A package of gun control measures proposed by President Barack Obama after the December school shooting has largely failed so far in Congress.

i saw this yesterday too. the link i saw though (Washington Post) included this tidbit about the marketing of guns for children. idiot parents and idiot gun laws.

In this case, the rifle was made by a company that sells guns specifically for children — “My first rifle” is the slogan — in colors ranging from plain brown to hot pink to orange to royal blue to multi-color swirls.

That's going to make a mockery of metal detectors at airports.

It also means anyone can get hold of a gun, anywhere, at any time.

Pissed off at school, but guns are banned in your country?

Jump on PirateBay, download a gun, then off to school to blast just a whole bunch of fuckers.

I think pretty much everyone needs to be worried about this.

Edit: Just downloaded the blueprint. 2mb file, took about 20 seconds start to finish.

Free guns for everyone, ladies and gentlemen.

gun laws. yeah. whatever.

A plastic gun made in a 3D printer fired real bullets during demonstrations over the weekend. Texas-based Defense Distributed has just made the blueprints for the gun available free so it can be replicated by others in their own 3D printers.

Won't make a mockery if the bullets are real. They'll be picked up on metal detectors.

Last weekend the NRA held its annual convention in Houston, and because it’s the NRA there is never a shortage of gobsmacking outrage to be had. But one item in particular as caught my attention today: a company, vending at the event, that makes a life-size sexified female mannequin shooting target, cleverly called “The Ex.”

Zombie Industries produces a line of surprisingly complex targets, all zombie-themed. The ex-girlfriend target mentioned above is one of their “bleeding” targets, so named because they bleed when you shoot them (there is also a range of “mutilating” targets...)

Usually shooting your ex-girlfriend in plastic effigy would cost you $99.95. But apparently the company is so excited to have been featured on MSN that they’re offering a special 50%-off discount. “The Ex” is very positively reviewed as well, such as this gem, from the five-star-giving “Bryan”: “I love that this target looks like Britney Spears and it bleeds when I shot it.”

Plastic 308s. From what I can see, that's a metal primer, but how difficult to make a plastic primer or download the blueprint for a self-assembly bullet, where you provide your own propellant?

I'm no expert, but it seems like a fairly simple job to make an all-plastic bullet. Certainly not going to have the stopping power of a real bullet, but fired at someone from point blank range I imagine it would do some fairly fatal damage.

How much is a 3D printer these days?

Amidst the NRA endorsed ex-girlfriend bleeding shoot target dummy, the 3D printed plastic guns courtesy of the anarchist who thinks its just a tool, the kid killing his sister with a fucking children's rifle...

Did you see this that just shows the hysterical level of headsplitting double-think twistedness of the US of A?

While this story highlights the inherent retardation of the people in charge of teaching kids... in a country where students periodically wander into schools with real guns and mow down just a whole bunch of motherfuckers, you can see why there's a proclivity towards overreaction in some cases.

I can see the argument from both sides, though.

This is a country that freed itself from the British Empire by arming its own people, forming militias, and fighting against the most powerful nation on Earth. Without guns they'd have been just another colony like the Falklands or Northern Ireland, only with way better movies. So there's an underlying mentality, justifiably, that if you have guns in civilian possession then there's less chance of 'The People' having to suffer through a tyranny of the government.... and this is one of the reasons the NRA and a large number of Americans believe they should have access to near-military capable weaponry.

You can't fight a military with shotguns and pistols, and if there ever did come a day where Americans had to kick some nutjob out of office then guns like my Mossberg are pretty much useless.

So that's the mentality. Americans believe their guns aren't just a right, they're a necessity.

Now personally I think there's some seriously flawed thinking there, but hey, each to their own.

On the other hand, dead kids being stretchered out of schools because there's irresponsible gun ownership, coupled with a massive percentage of mentally ill people having access to those guns, is seriously fucked up.

There needs to be stricter gun control in terms of who has access to guns rather than what kinds of guns there's access to, within reason.
