I once witnessed someone get their nipple twisted off, someone did a 'Radio Tokyo' on them at school, and it fell out of their jumper on to the floor, to everyone's amusement and horror. Ke1t
Been a bit chilly here for a week or two. Was down to around -20 for a while, and going up and down between that and -10. Right now it's a heatwave at about -3. Problem with places like Chicago and Detroit is that they're right on the Great Lakes, so we get 'Lake Effect' weather. The water is actually warmer than the wind, so the wind picks up moisture as it moves across the Lakes, then dumps this additional moisture in the shape of snow and ice. This basically means if it snows it can dump a couple of feet in a matter of a few hours. We also get the wind coming in off the lakes with no hills or mountains around us to slow it up,so we get some brutal ice storms and wind chill. The bigger cities tend to not get quite so much snowfall, but some areas of Michigan get up to 140 inches of snow a year. Compare that the Aberdeen's 45 inches. Anyway, it's cold just now, aye, but nothing a stout jacket, heavy boots and a mental hat can't cope with. Link to comment

Ke1t
But why does boiling water freeze quicker than cold water ? I don't know the scientific answer to that question. And when I don't know the scientific answer to something I resort to teleological argument. The reason boiling water freezes faster than cold water is because God and the Bible. Link to comment
E-P-K
My link Or do you mean why does boiling water freeze when you throw it in the air? Mpemba effect. I like how it was someone from Tanzania who found out this, somewhere where frozen temperatures are not a common occurrence Link to comment
