Closing The Dick Upper

Aye would sooner close the main or the merkland

Horrible Idea, its our one good stand why on earth would you close it,

Because the ultras want too?

Probably looking at the Motherwell model where it's just used for bigger games. But the thing is, Aberdeen fans aren't as tolerant as that diddy club's fans, and would probably say, "poke it". I know I wouldn't bother renewing for elsewhere. The lower RDS is horrible in the winter, the Main Stand too expensive and has pillars in the way, the South Stand not condusive to where I normally park down the beach, and the Merkland too low down to see what's happening at the other end of the pitch.

The marketing department (if they have one) seriously need to give themselves a shake if they think this is the answer to all our woes! I tell ya what you need to do - one thing - get a decent bloody team on the park driven by a decent manager, and then the RDU will be packed to the rafters!!

It wouldn't bother me one tiny little bit. I used to have my season ticket in the upper dick and didn't particularly like it. I much prefer the lower dick. They can't shut the Merkland as it is the family nor can the shut the main as it has the directors box so it would have to be the south or part of the RDS. They can't close the south as that is where the away fans sit so that leaves part of the RDS. If it meant the lower dick had more folk in it and cut down on stewarding and policing costs then I would be all for it. Pointless paying for a half empty stand.

Aye can understand that in an away end.

Think this has started from a few folk emailing the club saying it will improve the atmosphere, to be fair looks like the club have taken this on board, but relocating to the merkland? i cant see the benefit - i know its the nearest thing we have in our stadium to "the shed" and getting all nostalgic etc etc, but folk have to realize that as long as the team are playing shit there wont be any atmosphere.

But are those who are saying it's a sensible idea, those who don't currently sit there or don't regularly attend?

Do this and you are in danger of alienating a large percentage of your fan base. I

Do this and you are in danger of alienating a large percentage of your fan base. I’m sure there’s a reasonable number of supporters who have lapsed in the last couple of seasons, and to turn around now and say the place you used to sit, is now closed, would in my opinion, alienate them further.

The lower is full of wags in the centre section, together with current ST holders. I’m not sure you’d accommodate all current ST holders from the RDU into the RDL anyway.

And for those who sit in the SS, there is obviously the option to close it (ie the Aberdeen sections) and relocate them into the RDS. Make the SS the family stand (or at least, the section furthest away from the away support). Anyone who doesn’t want to relocate to RDS goes into Merkland.

It’ll be the end of the road for quite a few if they close the RDU and an admission that we’ve now became a diddy club, with diddy aspirations, instead or trying to resolve the root cause of the problems.

Tell you what, I’d love to see a cost analysis of shutting the RDU as opposed to keeping it open. I bet it’s negligible (they still have to have lighting on in the majority of the building, stewards etc for lower section). I can’t see how driving away supporters is conducive to cost saving in the long term. AFC should be doing everything in their power to keep fans and encourage them to come, not the other way round.

I think their plan is to shut the emptiest area of Aberdeen fans, not the busiest.

Anyway, I'd prefer it not to happen and for all area of the ground to have good crowds in it, and I see your small time point...the root of the problems is the performances on the pitch, play well and win regularly at home and the fans will come. Maybe not on a grand scale but surely a solid 12-13k (which yes I know is nothing to shout about but looking face on at some sub 7ks this season!).

3 home wins and 4 0-0 draws says it all for me.

I don't think it's because of that. I think it's folk just WANT an excuse to turn their back on the club, anything to have a go really.

A bit like myself, performances and match day experiences aren't great, that's why I don't go.

Possibly. I can see why some would say it though. If they have been a season ticket there for 5/10/15/20 years, there are obviously some reasons that they have stayed in that location. I know some have moved on elsewhere in the stadium, others have stopped going altogether, hence why there are less folks up there.

Personally, I'd have far higher reasons to not go back, but it is another thing to consider. I am there to watch the football first and foremost, and it is where I can take it in best in my opinion.

:Traynor: You would have to walk an extra 400 yards, tops.

If some fans turn their backs on the Club purely because they can't sit in the upper deck anymore then they need to take a long, hard look at themselves imo.

It's just a fucking seat, sit somewhere else ffs.

This is a little bit blinkered and narrow minded, not to mention highly insulting to those who have chosen to sit in the RDU for many seasons now (more than 10 for myself).

If it's just a seat, then why are there different pricing structures around various sections of Pittodrie? You don't go to the cinema and say, "aye, thanks, I'll pay my

My season ticket is on the top deck. Wouldn't bother me all that much tbh but surely they could look at closing off the uncovered part of the south and a few block in as hardly anyone ever sits there. Push everyone up towards the fence. Closing the top deck for the cups games made zero effect on the atmosphere apart from make the beach end like a ghost town.

IS the correct answer.

But unfortunately the product is dirt...

Closing somewhere in the stadium makes sense, because right now every other club is doing it so the stadiums look like they have more fans.

Right now Pittodrie looks stupid with everyone scattered all over the place and only in clumps.

Close off the corner of the south and pen everyone in beside the fence. Surely this would be better than closing the whole top deck.

The corner of the south, the people who stand there have tickets for elsewhere in the south, they just chose to stand there - that wouldn't change.

Closing Main Stand, probably a good idea, but wouldn't look good for TV purposes, but care.

Closing Merkland?

Aye that's what I mean. I would be very surprised if anyone actually has tickets for the corner of the south and even the 2-3 block inwards. Its only handy to stand there for a quick exit.

You wouldn't see it on TV and it would create a better atmosphere next to the fence / away support. South Stand is a crumbling mess anyway.
