Crossbow
Russell has signed on for another year saying he feels as fit as ever. Will go if he feels not up to it. Trust him to put in the effort and make that choice if/when it happens. Pleased he is staying as we need some older heads who are dons through and through. 2 Link to comment
tup
He is a brilliant defender. I'm delighted with this. Link to comment
StandFree1982
If anything, he'll be a great deal of help to the younger lads coming through like Shaughnessey (sp?!) Link to comment
tup
Not unhappy but hopefully he gets over this poor run quickly. What poor run? That's a myth, peddled by folk who know little or nothing about football. He is the foundation upon which all our good results this season have been achieved. Link to comment
Huntlysheep
Good experience in the team for younger heeds, but just think it'll be Reynolds & Considine next season with Russell as back up. But am glad he signed an Aberdeen lad who supports the club. Link to comment
tup
I'm 100% serious. This man is a legend, and is exempt from criticism. Link to comment
Henry
Inverness he was chronic as well as several other goals this season attributable to him. I like him, I'm not one of those hysterical types who rant for the sake of ranting, but I'm just acknowladging he's not always been at his best this year. This is good news. 4 Link to comment
tup
He might be limited in terms of pace but he knows how to defend, and his timing in the tackle is the best you'll ever see in an AFC shirt. Link to comment

Disagree - Willie Miller and Martin Buchan were both superior in that regard - though that is a very high standard to reach. Link to comment

boboisared
Good news as he's apparently great around the place for the young kids and has time for everyone at the club. Hopefully he's a bit steadier on the pitch. Link to comment

One swallow does not make a summer - he is not as good as Miller or Buchan - but that is not a damning criticism and I'm pleased he's staying. Link to comment

barassie_afc
Anderson was regularly bitch slapped by Kris Boyd, he never had the mental toughness, physique, nor nastiness a truly great defender needs, see Miller and Mcleish Link to comment
Karl Fletcher
I never suggested he was, I'm simply saying his timing of a tackle is unrivalled. That was indeed a belter. Fucking love the photos but even these don't do it justice. Link to comment
Byrne Baby Byrne
he is not as good as Miller or Buchan No shit. Delighted he's staying on. Great influence and should be a good back up player to have behind Considine and Reynolds. Good times Link to comment
Pash
That was indeed a belter. Fucking love the photos but even these don't do it justice. That would probably receive 3 red cards and a lifetime ban nowadays. Great tackle. Link to comment

I would honestly say Andos errors have contributed to as much goals as Clangers this year. The only difference is Clangers Is a twat Ando isn't. 2 Link to comment

What Anderson brings to the team massively outweighs that. His presence spreads calm in the back four, and he brings an assurance we were sorely lacking in recent years. Link to comment
Aberdeen_Fan
I'm 100% serious. This man is a legend, and is exempt from criticism. He is fairly useless when comes up against fast stikers like jonny russell Link to comment
sheepiekev
Not sure what to make of it.Great servant to the club, and a good ambassador for the club. However, has "creaked" once or twice this season. If used sparingly and not every week, I have no problem with it. Link to comment
tup
He is fairly useless when comes up against fast stikers like jonny russell It was either Russell or Rankin he hit with a cruncher of a tackle at Tannadice not so long ago. Russell got no joy that day against him so I'm not sure I agree with your point. Link to comment

Iraq_Red
As Tup points out he's not the fastest but neither was Miller but the thing they all have in common is their reading of a game and positional sense and these attributes can certainly counteract fast attackers somewhat Link to comment
Karl Fletcher
Russell Anderson is our Captain, Russel Anderson is a Red, Russell Anderson is from Aberdeen, He's a Dandy born and bred!* *to the tune of whistle stop by Roger Miller Link to comment

If you know where to take up position, that can cover a host of other deficiencies. For a centre half, pace is nowhere near the most important attribute. Link to comment
Ke1t
In recent years we've had, Ifil, Young, Duff, Diamond, McArdle, Grassi, Foster, Byrne, McNamara, and Mawene sitting in our back line on a routine basis. Russell Anderson, at least, is a defender in the actual sense of the word. 1 Link to comment
MikeyT
I agree with Tup/Kelt - the guy is a fantastic defender, with a great sense of position; the fact he's a die-hard Dandy is just the cherry on top. Excellent news ... 1 Link to comment

I'm a big fan of Ando don't get me wrong. But he has been a bit of a liability on more than one occasion this season and you don't expect that from Russell. 1 Link to comment
