Terrorfex
If you find yourself at a loss tonight (or while down at Pittodrie if the game is particularly boring), look up and towards the constellation Virgo, where Asteroid DA14 will make the closest approach to Earth of any object of equivalent size, ever. It'll pass closer to Earth than geostationary satellites orbit, but in stellar terms it's nothing to put Bruce Willis and Ben Afleck on alert for. Should be visible between 1930 - 2330. Dynamo
Hopefully it will do us all a favour and wipe us all out and end all of our miserable lives. Hopefully be a clear night at Pittodrie then and we can see it. Probably more entertaining than what will be on the pitch. Link to comment
robbojunior
If it landed in the six yard box at Pittodrie, langfield would probably survive as he'd be nowhere near it. 9 Link to comment

Admin Bebo Posted February 15, 2013 Admin Share Posted February 15, 2013 Meteorites have been hitting Russia today/yesterday. Because of insurance fraud, pretty much every russian has a dashboard camera in their car, meaning we get to see footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=4ZxXYscmgRg http://www.youtu.be/7c-0iwBEswE Link to comment
Robbie Winters
You see there is a reason for keeping RDS upper open, just to watch Asteroid's skyting over Northfield Link to comment

Terrorfex
Apparently it wont be visible with the naked eye, need binoculars, quick reflexes and the knowledge of exactly where to look to see it. It'll be heading "up" from the constellation Virgo. Easiest way to find that is to download the excellent free "Google Sky Map" on a smartphone and use that to point yourself in the right direction sky-wise. If you don't have a pair of binoculars handy, you can see the asteroid transiting via this link, from an observatory in Brisbane, Australia this morning. Link to comment

Got sky map, great app, going to be at pittodrie so won't get the chance to see it ( plus I don't have binoculars now I come to think of it). Will check the link out. Link to comment
