Reason i have to upgrade is i am splitting a room and thought move my living room 42" unbranded to bedroom and move my bedroom unbranded into other half of split roomsaves buying another tv for split bedroom and gives me the chance for a 3d one not so sure about this smart ones as i can see it being used for youtube/facebook and fights about wanting to watch tellyanyway laptops and desktops are for that sort of stuff Link to comment

Certainly nothing that normal viewers will see a big difference in. It wouldn't hurt to have that extra functions though. You'll have the phones, laptops, tablets etc. I think you can watch streams online with the Smart TV's but I wouldn't take that as gospel. I think all top range tellys have Smart capability anyway. I saved 500 on the same TV I had on order from John Lewis (1300 got it for 800, 51" Samsung) which jl would not price match. Also a 5 year no quibble refund or replace guarantee should anything go wrong with it. I notice the one in the link isn't Wi-Fi built in and you need to spend a bit more on the adaptor. CraigHill
3D = waste of time.Spend the same money on a top drawer HD tv, without the 3D. (I've got a 3D tv byraway, but it's nothing more than a gimmick). Link to comment

daytripping
I've got a 3D telly, waste of time, only used it a couple times and was not impressed, give it 10 years and it will. Out of my tellies I actually prefer the Tesco own brand one to my Samsung, I'm no guru but getting HD on your set top is more important than the tv I think, football on HD is a lot better. I wouldn't recommend LGI got the 42" version about 8 months ago.I'm not overly impressed. Quite often on HD channels the mouth and sound are not in synch, and I've got a regular problem with a slightly fuzzy picture.3D is also not going to catch on IMO.I'd recommend spending another £150 or so and go for a Panasonic. If you have a TV for anything up to 10 years, it's only working out at another £15 a year.Just my opinion though. Link to comment

jassb
I've only ever bought Sony TVs. Oh, apart from a Samsung in my bedroom. It's pish. Never been let down by Sony. I'm usually up for new things but not really interested in 3D yet, and everyone has confirmed there's not much point. Never even seen a 3D film at the pictures, so maybe i cant comment on it. Not convinced by Smart TVs yet either. Think it's just a gimmick to try to get us all to replace our dumb TVs that only show hundreds of channels. TVs are for watching TV. If I really want to use the internet or Skype, ill use my laptop and can still have the TV on in the background. For Link to comment

Bluto10
Don't see why not. That said a massive stand twinned with an enormous set would finish off the most elegant of rooms - and no installation required 1 Link to comment
sheepiekev
I don't fancy 3D either. Too gimmicky and needing 3D glasses is a downfall. I wear specs on occasion anyway and wouldn't fancy 3D glasses on top. Weird about the sound and mouth not matching. Sounds an obvious question but are you sure it's the telly that's the problem and not the Sky box? I've had an LG for almost 5 years. Great telly but it's beginning to lose picture quality with a couple of faint lines appearing every now and again. I'll be paying attention to this thread as I'll be getting a new one when it gets bad enough to be annoying. I have to go in and do a "factory reset" and the mouth then synchs with the sound. I might sell the TV, but would take a hit on the price paid only 8 months ago.As for 3D, I don't like it after a while - it's hard to watch 90 minutes of football with the specs on.Don't see it becoming the norm. With hindsight, I'd rather have spent more an an non 3D Panasonic gone for the better quality TV for HD.My folks have a 42" Panasonic and the picture quality is excellent. I'm a bit peed off about it as a few reviews I read, on techradar etc said I was buying a highly recommended TV. Link to comment

caledonia
hmm i thought the 3d looked good when i tried it out in a shop and i agree on most sites the Panasonic is mentioned time and again. Only some of the unbranded ones are half the price with not to much difference (well not half anyway)the one i have just now 42" from ebuyer full hd has a great picture better than the smaller samsung i have As for the smart functions like facebook/youtube/lovefilm etc i am not to sure about this as its going to cause arguments (ie some fucker on facebook when you want to watch the footie etc) only linked the first one as it was listed as a deal but not 100% convinced on LG either now.wont be ready anyway till a good few weeks so have plenty of time to choosethanks to all that replied Link to comment
