Must be to keep the (hun) filth company...what a waste of money

New Don

28.02.2013

Aberdeen Football Club has appointed a former Grampian Police Inspector as its new Head of Community, in a role that will see its areas of responsibility grow considerably over the coming months and years.

Although born in Dundee, Ally Prockter considers himself to be a life-long Dons fan and, as he explains, his new position will involve community in its widest meaning. "When George Yule outlined his vision to me for AFC in the Community, one which encompasses far more than the club has previously been involved with, I was totally 'sold'.It is also a marvellous opportunity for me personally to continue to develop my own skill-set whilst contributing positively to the North East of Scotland, and of course to Aberdeen Football Club."

Health, nutrition, fitness, education and social inclusion are just some of the far reaching areas that the 49 year old will be responsible for. "AFC is an important and visible part of the fabric of the north east community and I'll be looking to develop and engage in initiatives that will add value in all areas of our community, not just those involving football supporters.

"An additional aspect of my job will be as a visible and identifiable link between the Club and our fans, and my colleagues and I will do everything we can to ensure that all those interested in positively supporting this fantastic club will have the opportunity to be involved in getting the various, two way, messages across."

Pittodrie Vice Chairman George Yule is well aware of the importance of the Club's latest appointment. "This is a hugely challenging position and one for which Ally ticks all the boxes. Aberdeen Football Club needs to be seen to be more accessible and transparent and one of the main driving forces in bringing the community as a whole together. One of his initial tasks is to review the overall structure of AFC in the Community and identify appropriate initiatives going forward. Ally will work closely with all of our stakeholders to enable the Club to fulfil its duties and responsibilities as a role model across the region in the promotion of health, fitness, education and life skills in addition to supporting local community sector groups involved in drug and alcohol abuse programmes, special needs disability groups, female football development, unemployed and socially disadvantaged communities."

Ally, who moved to the north east at the age of eight, is married with two daughters and a son, and two step-daughters and a step-son. His youngest daughter already plays football at Aberdeen Sports Village at the tender age of 5 while his mother remains a regular Pittodrie attendee at 80!

His career with Grampian Police began in 1980, when he joined straight from Bankhead Academy as a cadet, spanning thirty-one years before retiring in November 2011. During his time in the force, Ally gained experience in a variety of aspects of police work including staff development and training, recruitment, community policing and a spell with the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency.

it seems to me a number of Hatters have been kvetching for some time in a variety of threads about the lack of interest in the club about what fans have to say. and unless i'm completely wrong, it would appear this position, in addition to working at developing programs in the community, would possibly be a good conduit for fan input about the club and what's happening. an opportunity to be listened to. and actually heard? :dontknow:

why not give him a chance? instead of immediately dismissing him and the position as useless? the club is paying for the position. you may as well look on it (initially anyway) as a positive change, rather than trashing him before he's even begun.

just a thought.

Ah LGIR, you misunderstand, the Hat is a place for miserable moaning hoors to complain about everything and anything - the club does nothing, complain, the club does something, complian.

Worst thing is an awful lot on here never even go to the games, yet still they moan and groan.

If a considereed and rational response to anything AFC does or proposes is what you're after, I'd close your hat account right now.

Not quite FS...the appointment of a Jute ex-copper is never going to sit well with AFC fans...it's a poorly timed (again) announcement which will further distance the club from the fans...Yule needs to get his act together tout suite and stop fannying about...he is fast becoming yet another...bag of hot air.

it may or may not be pointless. the point is it's now done.

so rather than moaning about what's happened, you may as well support the new position, and try to turn it to your best advantage at this point. no?

Eh...no...a copper is the last person a fan would want to talk to...kind of like putting a paedo in charge of a nursery...doomed to fail

heres a tip LGIR

do not expect aberdeen fans to support any decision the club makes. We are the biggest bunch of moaning bastards you are likely to encounter.

here's a thought. assume innocence until proven guilty. in a manner of speaking.

the person hired for the job is a Dons supporter. he may be a cop, but he may be a good one. you have not a clue. not all cops are horrible, useless people. so perhaps just give him a bit of time, and some support.. and see what happens. maybe this once your initial instinct about how this will all play out will be proven wrong?

hardly. we have our share of good and bad. just like in most professions.

you'll not convince me that every single cop in Scotland is a corrupt and/or useless bag of shite.

Tup, you wanted people to think outside the box. perhaps this is an opportunity to do that?

No, my mind is closed on coppers and their general uselessness and corruption.
