I don't remember them being particularly prominent, certainly no more than any other 'big' club. Only team I remember from the 80s as being outstanding, other than Aberdeen, was that Milan team. Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Maldini, Baresi, Costacurta, Ancelotti, and the guy no-one remembers, Simone They were something else to watch, and personally I reckon they'd have given the Aberdeen CWC team a pretty good match. Bluto10
cheers kelt but it was mostly archibald i was interested in. you remember his time there? im 34, so its just before my time really. unsurprisingly though there are few actual don fans on here above the age of 17 Link to comment

Huntlysheep
From what i've seen & heard the Barca of the 80's were mediocre compared to the Barca of the 7 years or so. Link to comment
E-P-K
After 84/5, they never won La LIga again until 90/91, runner up 85/86. 86/87 and 88/89 The did win Copa del Rey in 87/88 and 89/90 Cryuff and his so called dream team, took over in circa 1989 and they, Barca went on and dominated for the next 5 years. Ke1t
so was he involved in their euro cup run under el tel? i could google it of course but am interested in anecdotal evidence The problem there is that this was all before the advent of the Internets, and back in the 80s we had about 4 channels, none of which showed Spanish fitba, I don't think. Channel 4 did have Sumo and Kabaddi, though. Scottish Newspapers run very little about non-Celtic or Old Rangers stuff, so it was sometimes hard to know what was happening at Pittodrie, let alone Barcelona. These days of Mass media you can sit and watch several games at the same time, taking place in different parts of the world, while sitting naked in your own home drinking shandy and beating it to faked pictures of Roseanne Barr. I think after Archibald left we didn't hear very much about him, probably because we had our own thing going on at the time what with being the best team in the world and all. Link to comment
