Make Room! Make Room!

By 2050 the population of the world will be a wholly unsustainable 10 billion.

I hope hope to be long dead by then, but the legacy we're leaving our kids is one of serious fucking shit. Those are the exact words of the UN Committee for Human Affairs.

"By 2050, world population is expected to reach a wholly unsustainable 10 billion. If these projections are accurate than we're in some serious fucking shit, and no fucking mistake." said UNCHA Chief Kelt. At least, I would say that if they did something right and appointed me to that chair, which doesn't actually exist.

We're barely feeding ourselves as it is. The last few years saw the planet actually consume more food than it officially produced, and that's with around 6 or 7 Billion, I forget the exact numbers.

Obviously most of this increase will be in the wog countries, where plague and starvation is a pretty ordinary day.

"Can little Rajesh come out to play?"

"No, sorry, he's starving to death and has the plague."

When India and China begin starving on a massive scale, shits going to hit the fan... because they're going to come looking for farm land to feed their billions.

Maybe their energy needs will compel them to do so before they even start starving.

Either way, by 2050, they'll be coming for us, just see if they don't.

Scaremongering obviously...do you never wonder how it all just seems to work out ok?...chicken liken syndrome gone mad....chill out and enjoy the ride.

I don't have to wonder... I read books and know how it always worked out.

Fuck knows how it's going to 'work out' in a little under 40 years, though.

Any ideas?

I read books...come on man...words on a page are how others perceive...who really gives a fu*k...do you think your father lost sleep wondering how things were going to be in 40 years time...I doubt it...he was probably more interested in the here and now...which is probably all any of us should concern ourselves with...once more...Chicken licken thinking.

Well, is that entirely true?

I mean, you have certain subjects where you can be fairly objective... like the Plagues of Medieval Europe. It's not just subjective interpretation as to whether they wiped out huge numbers of people, it actually, undeniably happened, massively reducing populations.

Crop rotation and mechanised farming massively increased harvests, and preceded increases in urban population.

Populations have usually been at the whim of circumstance, whereas in the next 40 years they're going to race ahead of innovation.

Unless there's a massive plague, or we come up with a means of feeding an extra 3 billion mouths. .
