buzz15afc
as most of you who read this board regularly will know, im going to be climbing Kilimanjaro in September for Alzheimer scotland, the reason for chosing this charity is my granda was diagnosed with this disease approx 7 years ago last monday my granda passed away at the ripe old age of 80, his last few years havent been great, along with having Alzheimer he also suffered a stroke around the same time! he is my inspiration for doing this trek, and was an absolute legend in my eyes, during his life time, he completes 10's of marathons, including the London on several occasions. when he worked in dundee, he used to run the 15 miles from forfar to work, and sometimes back afterwards too.. he made me the person i am today, taking me all over scotland to watch Aberdeen, he bought my season tickets for me, when i played football he was the one standing at the side lines in all weathers all over the country encouraging both myself and my sister (who was never as good as me ) he took my teams fitness training and spent hours kicking a ball about with me in 'the backies' my fondest memories are going to aberdeen games when i was younger, before the days of satnav, we used to just drive to towns and found the grounds by looking for floodlights... and i always remember him lifting me over the turnstiles when i was wee as the ticket man never charged!! he also bought a programme every week, and before the days of set squad numbers, during the teams lining up he always got his pen out to put the numbers by the players names on the back of programme I will now be climbing Kilimanjaro in his memory, not that i need any more motivation, but when the legs get tired and the breathing is coming from my ass... ill just think of him, and know that if he was there with me he'd be sprinting way up the front!!! OddJob
Sorry to hear that mate I lost my Grandad to cancer just before xmas last year, he also had suffered a stroke earlier that year. Horrible to see your loved ones in that condition, so as hard as it is to see him pass on, you'll be happy he's no longer suffering and is at peace Link to comment
