Help For Heroes

While it's admirable to see people get off their arse and do something for charity, and kudos to your wife for taking the time to support a charity she thinks is a worthwhile cause, this isn't a charity I would ever consider supporting.

Nothing wrong with Help For Heroes. I feel theyre a worthwhile course. Cancer research is a waste of a donation

Often people get cancer through no fault of their own, so I'd be inclined to donate to cancer research.

Joining the army and getting pieces blown off is an entirely voluntary activity in the UK, so I'd be inclined to go "Oh well."

If anyone should be responsible for looking after people who were maimed by a government's foreign policy it's the government itself, not charity.

Also I don't consider a one-legged ex-squaddie a 'hero'.

All very well, but CLAN don't do research ffs...

I've got nothing for or against Help for Heroes, I'm just more for:

a) local charities

b) charities that I find some relation to, though personal experience or information provided to me.

Am I right in thinking Mrs Laphroaig is doing a sponsored "taking it up the mudder" challenge?...how many blokes is she expected to "take" during the challenge?...I'm guessing a fair few as it is titled the tough mudder...anyway good luck to her...if she stays well lubed it should stand her in good stead...Hats off to you Laphroaig...there's not many who would be happy to let their Mrs take part in such an event.

I sponsored some random off here for something a while back. Fuck knows if they did what they said they were going to do - can't even remember what it was. They got the money out my bank though. Well done I say. I give the odd bit of change in the tins on flag days and I pay some money to some pish charity every month, but claim it back on tax. Whatever the cause, if they use the money sensibly - or even if they just use it to get pished - well done.

I don't have a problem with the charity, but I get enough sponsor requests through friends and family. So, to expect me to sponsor someone I have never met, and never will, is asking a bit much. Also, to then come back and slag us for not sponsoring is rather cheeky
