Selling A Car In Ne Scotland.

It's looking likely that I'll need to sell on my folk's car when I'm out next month but I've no idea how to go about it over there: what magazines, websites, other options there are.

They're in Peterhead so what would be my best options for shifting a car reasonably quickly (within a month)?

No big deal for secrecy about the car.... I have no idea of what the price would even be but will check more into that when I'm out there to actually do the selling. It'll be more then GBP20 though, dave_min. :swear:

It's a first half of 2011 plate i10 active in a slatey grey colour that probably has near enough bugger all miles on it. Way way way less than average since it got/gets used for the trips to the doctors and the shops and that's about it.

If that kind of car fits then maybe I can chat with the dealer. I know my Dad got the car from Arnold Clark in Aberdeen but gets it serviced now at the Arnold Clark on the outskirts of Peterhead as the Aberdeen drive is too much for him.

WEBUYANYCAR.COM.

It isn't your car so you won't be worried about getting the top price, no tyre kickers and phone calls, just put in the reg at the site and they'll quote you, then give it to them if the price is ok, will probably be a couple hundred less than you'd get privately but cuts out the hassle.

gumtree is free and works well.

I sold my last one on webuyanycar. Got a better price than the garage offered as a trade in for my new one. Don't think they ever give you the price they offer on the website, they knocked £200 off mine for a few scrapes on the wheels, but still got a good price and was the easiest way I've ever sold a car.

What do they do with all the motors?

Obviously sell them but where??

Not that Im selling, but I'm a nosey kinda bugger so I just checked my car on the We Buy any Car website.......Holy Crap! :hypno: On the Pistonheads site it's selling for between £7,995 and £11,400 depending on mileage..................WBAC are offering £4,500 :angry2: It's a convenient way to sell but fuck being ripped off!

And now you're going to get months worth of Spam from them......going by my experience of doing the same thing.

Anything from 4500 - 5200 dependent on private sale and how truthful you are with description. It'll need a new clutch if your folks are over 60 years old due to over revving and dodgy gear selection driving everywhere in 2nd gear.

Drop me a PM nearer the time and I'll check it out.

They're former missionaries so any advertising would be scrupulously honest or I'd get disowned... but that aside I've probably driven their car more than they have in just being out there for 9 or 10 weeks in the 2 years they've had it. I'll drive it this time until it's sold as well.

My point behind that is I doubt it's been used enough to have clutch issues.

My Mum hasn't felt comfortable driving for years so hasn't. My Dad is not able anymore.

Yas, one less dodery old codger off the roads! Just kidding min ;)

How are they going to get about with no motor? Going from the freedom & convenience of a motor to not having one is nae great.

You better believe it. I've been 'encouraging' him to restrict his driving in the last few years (one reason they got the i10 is I encouraged them to get a "towncar" and played on the "much better only around the town since you won't be going long drives" thing). But he's having some issues that mean even going to the shops is well... no.

He's unfortunately now the 80-year-old-guy-who-ploughs-into-a-school-crossing headline in waiting.

And no it's absolute shit. I can't imagine being told "you'll never drive again". You what? Losing my ability to just get in the car and go where I want, when I want... fuck. That'd be grim.

That's why I've been working this with him for a few years to get him prepared for it... getting him to take the occasional taxi instead of driving... so he can see the cost of them and how they'll work for his life (he's of course taken plenty of taxis in times past but for work and travel related shit like most people). Plenty of old folks take the taxi to the shops and the taxi back so that'll be their life from now on. And the money from selling the car will pay for those taxis to get them around. Getting them to take the taxi to the bus stop to get the bus to Aberdeen for the bus to the hospital there. Same when wanting to see my sister in Edinburgh, they used to drive that until they got this car and that was not wise. So yeah, trying to ease him into not driving but ensuring he has *options*.

For their sake but also every other poor sap on the road with them.

Drop me a PM when you get back then.

Aye I'll see how I go. My brother emailed me saying he might have a friend who might want to buy the car... that would be the easiest. I don't want them ripped off, but don't want them dealing with a lot of shit: it's got to be an easy process for them because it's not a good one.

Total aside but after helping them choose a car while I was out and being pretty bloody amazed at the little i10... after I went back to Oz from that trip I started getting serious about Hyundai (i30 estate) and got myself one. It's a pretty amazing little car. Not full of toys but for a tiny car it doesn't actually feel that tiny inside. Hyundai have come a long way since the 80s and 90s shitboxes that's for sure.

I once had a salesman try to sell me a Nissan Micra.

I'm over 6' tall, and the Micra is designed for people approximately 4' in height, or for those with tiny, stumpy legs.

He actually persuaded me to get behind the wheel, which I did, then proceeded to try convincing me that it was a 'really good fit'.

I would have lol'ed at him if we had been online... since we were face to face I just laughed out loud instead and took my business elsewhere.

In the end I got a Rover 800 series, of Cook, Pass, Babtridge fame.

If he's inferring, implying, propsing, advocating or encouraging. it's wholeheartedly unethical what he is urging a good guy like ADIOZ to do.

Hairy cunts like him give cupboards a bad name.

Are you talking about me or ADIOZ here. He kills people in his dungeon and has a big beard so I'm guessing it's him.

I am talking about you with your abhorent suggestion that a fine upstanding gentleman like Adioz do something despicable to his parents.

You repulse me.

He'd get a nice car for little effort. I don't see the problem personally.

Fatima fucking autocorrect. Fatjim would get a ride out of it as well.

Win win.
