NorthernLights24
A helicopter believed to be carrying 18 people has ditched west of Shetland. Police Scotland said they have been told the incident happened west of Sumburgh airport. It is understood a ferry travelling between Shetland and Aberdeen has been diverted to the scene. The RNLI said Aith and Lerwick lifeboats were launched at about 19:00. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-23821083 Seems to be happening far too often. Hopefully everyone on-board is OK. Link to comment

Walt Flanagan's Dog
From Facebook, so no idea of accuracy, but the police in Shetland have had to close the road past Clickimin where the emergency landing site is due to the number of folk trying to see people coming off of the rescue helicopter Link to comment

fine-n-dandy
Times like this when I think it'd be a lot better to double times on & offshore in the rotations just to minimise or lessen the number of required helicopter flights. This would obviously only work for those on regular rotas but say a 3 & 3 rota changing to 6 & 6 & a 2 & 4 changing to a 4 & 8. Obviously not perfect for varying reasons but anything that diminishes the need for so many flights on what is a fairly unsafe mode of travel, I am all for. Really hope for all involved in this that they are ok Link to comment
