A Question From Bristol

Recommended Posts

I registered on your chat site because I was impressed by Derek McInnes when he was at Bristol City and I really wanted to follow how he gets on at Aberdeen. I also have a local interest as I was in the RAF at Peterhead and know the area really well.

I didn't think that Derek was given a fair crack of the whip at City and he had terrible luck with injuries.

So, you appear to be doing ok so far in the league, how do you feel that Del Boy is doing and is the football attractive?

He came in when we were adrift at the bottom, turned it around and kept us up. We beat Southampton (promoted) home and away and drew with West Ham (also promoted) home and away playing some good stuff.

We started the next season by beating Palace and cardiff (both promoted) scoring 8 goals in the process. Then we started getting injuries to our defenders. We went on a bad run and confidence disappeared and we never recovered.

Foster was the easy target for the knuckle scrapers in the crowd. Del had brought him in and he is a scot. His form and confidence was poor but he was one of many under-performing. I liked his pace and bravery in the tackle and he was an intelligent player who often covered for the central defenders weaknesses.

Interesting to see the similar injuries creeping into your squad. Does he work them too hard?

Not the brightest and not the prettiest Chutney

Ok, on to fitba then.

I was under the impression that McInnes was criticised at both St Johnstone and Bristol City for being over cautious? The abundance of direct, attack minded players at Aberdeen at the moment would make this fairly difficult.

If I was to be over-critical I would say he could have made some noise and got the chairman to back him more - The Dons are a couple of full-backs and a decent 'keeper light.

When things started going tits up he didn't seem to know how to stop the rot. Ok, we had injury problems at the back but we couldn't defend to save our lives and teams were scything through us. We looked like a team of strangers.

It was weird because the season before, we had a long run of very good results against teams that were near the top of the league. We played Southampton off the park and beat them 2-0 and that really kick started the relegation fight.

We needed to invest at the start of the next season and it was widely accepted that we need 2 dominant centre-halves. we didn't buy one even and that was our Achilles heel.

We also had too many players that were dead-wood and he didn't seem to be able to shift them.

I don't know if you know this Harvey, but McInnes played for a team called Rangers. They no longer exist, so you may not be familiar with them. They used to be a fierce rival of The Dons. His association with them is always going to irritate some people in our support, so they'll be ready to pounce at the slightest mistake.

Yup, aware that he is a blue nose. S'pose the only way to get the fans on side will be results. He appeared to do well with St Johnstone before he came to us.

Shades lived in Bristol for a few years. Many a night out there. Used to rock out in the Bierkeller. Made love to a few ladies, got caught trying to steal ones panties in the morning.

Plenty cider on offer before it came trendy to drink cider, speak slightly funny.

Can't comment on the football other than Foster and McAllister played for one of the teams and they are both terrible football players.

I think I remember your pilgrimage to Fred West's hoose?

So which member is Harvey on the wind up? The clues are there!!

The RAF in Peterhead is an odd one so maybe he's finally kicked the roids? Roids Are Fun

That's my guess anyway. Never thought it was that until you pointed it out.

Peterheid Loon.

However The Hulk is also a candidate here for me but I'll plump for Peterheid Loon off the roids.

Wasn't it also the case that he had to quite drastically slash the wage bill for his first full season in charge, therefore making the team pretty uncompetitive and undoing some of his early work with the squad?

Not guilty. Doubt it's PL either. I reckon the boy is genuine. Pusey Place is where the RAFfers used to live. I am a stone's throw from Pusey Place.

K-9 you're full of shit.

Harvey was there much pavement dancing when you played Rovers the other week?

It was fairly quiet. A crew of Gasheads did a few pubs on the way to the ground and some small children ran on the pitch at the end and spat their dummies out. Police were out in force and it did kick off at the KFC near the ground for a while after but nothing serious.

I don't think so. Baldock and Davies were brought in up front and both were high maintenance. The damage with wages was done in the time that Coppell came in and brought David James, Nicky Hunt and a few "experienced" pros. Hooped us big time. Fortunately we have a money-bags chairman who has lost about £50million on us so far or we would be seriously fucked now.
