RUL
Anyone any experience? Had a leak behind shower, knew nothing about it until noticed marks on kitchen ceiling below. Got plumber out to stop leak and he's identified issues with kitchen ceiling, bathroom wall, ajoining wall to my bedroom etc. Got assessor coming tomorrow. Anyone had similar claims? Insurance told us not covered for fixing leak but covered for access and damage? Would imagine be ok but wonder if they'll try and get out of it? Also they told us to not bother getting quotes and if upheld assessor would make cash offer tomorrow? How we meant to know it's a fair offer? Link to comment

Had experience with a leak from an upstairs flat, I had to claim off my insurance as that's the way home insurance works, everyones covered for their own property and that's it, not any damage they may inflict on other peoples property. Assesor came out, checked the damaged ceiling, measured up and I got a cheque a few days later, it was my responsinility to get someone in to do the work. Claims aren't what they were of old, where you could get your whole room decorated so it all matched, the valuation/cheque I received was for the basic repair of the area that was damaged. I wanted to replace my whole ceiling but they were having none of that. Their valuation of the damage was to cut out damaged ceiling plasterboard, replace with new plasterboard and skim the affected area not the whole ceiling. Link to comment
daytripping
I had much the same, central heating pipe sprung a small leak, took down part of the ceiling, none of the plumbing work is covered but the rest will be, you should have no problems. I got the work done with homers, the insurance company had no problem with that and paid out in cash. Link to comment
K-9
Personally would get a quote so you know if the offer they make is anywhere near enough Link to comment
