Clydeside_Sheep
I was shocked recently to see how superior (about +10 goals) Ush*ted's Goal DIfference is to ours. I decided to look into this and saw that - other than their draw against sellick - they have won their last 4 or so games and scored 4 goals in each of them (though often conceeding 1 or 2 as well). This isnt the USh*ted I know and dislike - what the hell is going on? Has this free-scoring run been a bit of luck, or are they - God forbid - actually proving a good team? (I am obviously concerned about this, as we clearly cant accept USh*ted being a good team, whatever is the world coming to.) Link to comment
Stoney
Playing as a team, makes a huge difference in this league. Link to comment

King Street Loon
They are a good attacking team who a manager (prick) who plays people in their correct positions and allows them to express themselves.Gauld, Armstrong and Soutter are very good prospects. Link to comment
K-9
Were struggling for players at start of season as have small squad and they were forced into fielding some of their youngsters and it was sink or swim and they have certainly swam. Still think a few injuries and they might struggle a bit though with little cover (unless more young lads come in and do job) Link to comment
Tord31
Felt during the Pittodrie 1-0 game that they were the best side had seen at pittodrie this season and just needed a better number 9 to really kick on. The emergence of Gauld, improvement in Armstrong, signing of Ciftci and still having Gms has meant they are no one man band and teams haven't been able to mark out or kick out one threat to stop them Small squad as has been said and maybe they'll struggle to keep it going whole season. Considering someone was willing to pay £500k for Ryan Fraser last January then would assume someone be willing to pay £1million for Gauld (longer contract and better stats) Link to comment

United's second goal on saturday was ridiculous don't know how it wasn't a free kick. Link to comment
MightyDons
They have been talking about £3million for Gauld, with the likes of Roma, Everton, Man U, Arsenal, Juventus and even Real Madrid all having scouts watching him. He is a real talent, so it would be nice to see him move to Germany or Spain and get a real football education. Link to comment
Clydeside_Sheep
Thanks for the comment / info all - their goal tally seems more reasonable now, but I still dont like it! Link to comment
Byrne Baby Byrne
Gauld looks quality. Better than any of the youngsters we've developed recently. Could be a real star. I want him to develop (into a top Scotland player) but on the other hand I can't wait for him not to be a United player!! With him, Mackay-Steven, Armstrong and Ciftci they have some top class attacking players. To the extent that it has barely been noticed how shite David Goodwillie has been on his return!!! Pudgie
Remember how much Aluko, Diamond, Fyvie and Fraser were all going to go for. Maybe this is the one to buck the trend but I can see him moving to a low Prem club or a Championship club for a 6 figure sum. Link to comment

Foster14
Gauld is signed on until January 2016, which is only two years off. Might make it difficult to get a decent fee, though based on the hype and performances so far, they may end up benefitting from a bidding war on him. Sunderland already had £500k bid for Souttar rejected and that was before he signed his extension. Link to comment

He looks like an incredible talent so far but when push comes to shove, I just don't think that Scottish teams can hold out for the cash that gets spoken about each time one of these gems comes about. When was the last time Celtic or even Oldco got a huge fee for a Scottish player? Link to comment

When was the last time Celtic or even Oldco got a huge fee for a Scottish player? When was the last time they had a good one that they really wanted to work hard to keep? Celtic got £10m for McGeady, who was as good as Scottish. That was only 3 years back... Goodwillie got £2m for Goodwillie, who only really had one particularly good season at United, had had a history of misbehaviour and only had one team chasing him at the time. It will be 7 figures minimum in my opinion. They'll sound him out on a new deal over the summer, if he's not interested in signing, he'll be available soon after. Link to comment

When was the last time Celtic or even Oldco got a huge fee for a Scottish player?Celtic were reported to have received a combined £20M plus for Hooper and Wanyama in the summer. Those deals are probably inflated by performance ad dons but so will most. If enough big clubs are after Gauld, United could easily get £5M for him- if enough big clubs are interested For his own good I think he should wait to the summer and do a Booth/Lambert- for Aberdeens good I hope he joins Sunderland for £1.5M on the first day the window opens Link to comment

When was the last time Celtic or even Oldco got a huge fee for a Scottish player? He's still only 17. Plenty time for him to start going into town in Aberdeen and Dundee thinking he's the big man on campus. Popping bottles of grey goose in the "VIP" of tiger tiger. He'll get his big move and customary 1 Scotland cap then start hitting the big smoke down in England. Shagging a different bird every week and hoovering up biff. A loan move to league 1 fill follow then a transfer to league 2. He'll start to get his act together and it is at this point that the Dons will sign him as a washed up 33 year old. One Ryan Gauld!! Rubinho Escocia
I agree the guy Gauld looks quality but I'd say a big part of that is having a manager who gives promising youngsters a chance in their correct position, which like him or hate him McNamara does. If he'd been at Aberdeen in recent years or Houston was still at United he'd get 10mins at the end of the game in a different position every week until being randomly rested. Hopefully McInnes will follow suit as I think Cammy Smith may develop into a good player - albeit I've no idea what his best position is given he's played up front, midfield, behind the striker and on the wing for us under Brown. In fact it would be interesting to know what would happen in a parallel universe with Gauld at the Dons and Smith at United. Link to comment

Guest
Rocket's mate is to blame for this. Genuinely. See the Jackie McNamara thread for details. He's certainly not doing any harm! But it's the management team that deserve the credit. The culture there right now is extremely positive. They are hungry. They enjoy their training. They want to perform. Winner mentality isn't a bad quality to have. Link to comment

I know it was said about Fraser. GMS was one of the hottest things around last season and United never got one decent offer for him. I really can't see Gauld bucking the trend of his predecessors. Fyvie - Looked good in a shite team, didn't have enough end results, had a bad injury and mis-used after.Aluko - Shitty attitude. Fraser - Had no faith in him go give him a lengthy deal, burst on to the scene and then never looked to sign a new contract. Gauld is different to Fraser in that he has already shown a commitment to Dundee United by signing a new deal since breaking in to the team. Dundee United also have a far better setup in that regard and have shown to be a pretty good team for developing young players in to the first team over recent years. Plus, as I already said, all you have to look at is what Thompson got for Goodwillie, after one good season, and he would not be bucking the trend of his predecessors at all... Link to comment
