Does anyone have any information with regards to each Scottish Premiership clubs highest attendance each season for the last 30 years?

 

I am having a debate with a friend. My guess is that in the vast majority of years Aberdeen have had the highest non Old firm crowd each season.

Nah. Hearts will have had a few bigger than us non old firm.

Especially lately & especially v Hibs.

We've had a few big uns round about Xmas etc. but Hearts (likely even on average at home) will be bigger.

Given how small Tynecastle is, I doubt it.

 

For example, this season and last we've had crowds higher than the capacity of Tynecastle.

 

Throughout the Jimmy years we had near sell outs v the OF as well.

No we haven't. The only attendance bigger than the capacity of Tynecastle we'd had this season was against Celtic but we're not counting OF sides.

Biggest attendance we've had this season (except celtic) was just shy of 14k v Hearts.

Our crowds always look poor because Hearts bring 6 fans when they play up here yet we bring 3,000 when we play them down there.

We probably have had top attendance in about 18 of those 30 years.

Jambos & even Hibs have had higher averages more recently but they have also had a spell in the Division 1.

Aberdeen 0 Caley 0 19,000 under Permatan. Hearts couldn't smell that. There will have been several others the biggest being Aberdeen 2 Ushited1 Full house.

Even v St Johnstone aggregate gate was 23,900

Going back a few years & were they festive period games?

 

We have misunderstood each other I think.

 

I'd agree that mostly (but not every season) we have had the biggest single attendance (not counting OF games) each season but mainly because we have a bigger capacity.

On average (especially over past 10 years) I'd say Hearts are shading it.

 

These past 3 or 4 years Hearts are easily winning in (on average) & are even winning it on a single attendance this season (not counting Celtic).

 

They have had a far better home attendance average than us over the Romanov time mostly but we may have had a couple of bigger non OF attendances because of our larger capacity stadium.

That's all true.

They are/were glory hunters but credit to them as a lot of them are sticking by them now in their time of need.

The reason we were discussing this is due to the perceived pattern in Aberdeen's crowds. Historically Aberdeen have never had speculator average attendances considering the side of our catchment area. We often get a big crowd one week only to get half of that attendance for the next home match.

 

I am sure I once came across information that suggested that Aberdeen do in fact get the biggest (non Old Firm) crowd each season.

I can't find Hearts biggest attendances for each season.

 

But can you find our biggest crowds out with one of the OF sides?

That was kind of the point (I think)

 

Pretty grim reading that our biggest (even against one of the OF) over 9/10, 10/11, & 11/12 weren't even as big as Tynecastle capacity

I just lost the biggest crowds Hearts had over the same period (spent an hour digging it up then lost it). From around 1985 to 1993 their biggest crowd more often then not was vs Rangers and was in excess of 28,000 for some years.

 

From what I what I can tell due to the capacity of Aberdeen's and Hearts's stadium at various points over the last 30 years its roughly 15 each with regards to who had the biggest attendance.

regarding catchment area...... even tho we have a massive area in which we should be pulling in crowds from, am i correct in asuming that a great deal of people living in the aberdeen area, are in comers due to the oil industry?? would be interesting to see the % of people who live in aberdeen are born and bred, and the amount that are in comers...'in-comers' should then prob be discounted as they will not be aberdeen fans!!!

Its worth noting that the four years shown at the bottom of the list were seasons when Aberdeen were truly horrific and Hearts's crowd were not that much bigger.
