Bbc Transfer Window Fan Feature

Recommended Posts

BBC Sport Scotland have got in touch with The Hat as they are putting together a fan feature for their website, asking one person from each club what their hopes are for the forthcoming transfer window.

If you want to participate, just answer the following questions in the thread.

  1. What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why?
  2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why?
  3. What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why?
  4. Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why?
  5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why?
  6. What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why?
  7. If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi!

Respondents will have their name credited to their answers on the BBC website.

1. A full back (right or left, but preferably both). Would rather have centre halves playing at centre half. Natural full backs could also add to attacking play.

2. Nobody in particular. Maybe some of the younger players out on loan.

3. Calvin Zola: a striker who has only scored three goals. Gregg Wylde: not seen enough of him so far (perhaps more down to the fact that Hayes/McGinn/Pawlett have been doing well).

4. Having only been a proper Dons supporter since 2003, I don't have many to choose from. The signing of Steve Lovell in 2005 carried a lot of excitement given his record at Dundee and also that a fair price was paid for his services. Signing of Paul Hartley in 2010 was unexpected and he provided a glimmer of light in a terrible season.

5. Due to signing of recent contracts, not too scared about losing anyone. McGinn hitting the goal trail again though means he might be getting a bit of attention south of the border. We'd definitely miss him if he were to go. The club have done well to sign up the important players, so doubt anyone will depart.

6. Peter Pawlett: always felt there was a good player there, as did most Dons fans, but his injury problems meant many, including myself, felt he wouldn't make it. They seem to have been sorted though, and a change of position to attacking midfield mean he's turned into the side's best and perhaps most important player this season. Delighted he's signed a new long term contract too, so should be here for a while yet.

7. Kris Boyd still seems to know where the net is. Billy McKay scoring for fun again this season as well. No club outside of Celtic would say no to them.

  1. What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why?

2x Full backs and a striker. Why? We don't actually have any full backs, and our strikers vary between average and mince. Kev McNaughton on loan from Cardiff would be a good signing.

  2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why?

Jamie Langfield - a 34 year old man that spends his time shouting at youngsters for his mistakes. A man with over a decade of experience that doesnt know what to do when a corner comes into the box. The supposed clean sheet phenomenon is down to the excellent defence in front of him. His twitter account is an absolute embarassment as well. Any sign of a big game and he bottles it, see both games v Celtic, away v ICT a couple of weeks ago. If Niall McGinn apologises for scoring against Celtic ever again he can leave as well.

  3. What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why?

Calvin Zola has, with the exception of a couple of good 45 minutes, been poor. However, you can't argue with the stats - we win more games than not when he plays.

  4. Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why?

Of all time? As i'm a young man I would have to say Scott Severin who was a bit of a surprise capture at the time. Growing up, Eoin Jess was an idol of mine so i'd maybe say his return.

  5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why?

I doubt he will go anywhere, but Mark Reynolds is the best defender in the country in my opinion.

  6. What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why?

Some will say Pawlett, but I knew there was a player in there somewhere - he has been a victim of terrible management, especially in the Craig Brown era. If he played for Dundee United this season he'd be worth around £45million by now. Willo Flood has surprised me - I was unsure if he would be able to make the step up to a bigger team but he has done so effectively for the most part when fit.

  7. If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi!

Shay Given, or another experienced keeper along the same mould.

  1. What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why? designated RB & LB, a decent striker with good target hitting percentage & a decent keeper

  2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why? Zola (not impressed) Jamie Langfield (never been impressed in nearly ten years with him in goal) & also Weaver (not good enough either) also Chris Clark (poor excuse for a player)

  3. What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why? Zola (for sure) Wylde (not had much game time) & also Robson but has been injured for the most part

  4. Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why? Willie Miller (biggest & most influential playing LEGEND for Aberdeen in my lifetime & possible ever)

  5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why? Mark Reynolds (hard to choose between a few good players but I think Reynolds would actually be hardest to replace)

  6. What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why? Peter Pawlett (been free from injury & has been a real breath of fresh air to us this season under McInnes)

  7. If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? The obvious choices would be the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, or ibrahimovic for example but as a more realistic option, I would go for someone like Leigh Griffith, or Kris Boyd type strikers.

  1. What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why? Right full back first, then a left back. We are running out of players to even play out of position in these.

  2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why? Zola, I can see why he was bought but really it hasn't worked. He just doesn't fill the role he is meant to.

What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why? Zola again, really painful to watch him play. He can't hold the ball up like he is meant to and doesn't seem to be able to jump.

Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why? There have been a few mini-coups lately but of all time (being a youngster) Deano will always be a favorite (also would have liked to have seen more of Craig Hignett).

What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why? McGinn, he has been playing wide but still gets the goals.

What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why? Pawlett this year has gone from being loaned out to first team every week, with very good reason. Everyone knew he had ability but injuries and so on niggled him. Seems to have bulked up this year and is making the best of his position in the team.

If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi!) I think Anderson might be on his last season (maybe the same with Robson) so we'll need a solid leader fairly soon so silly money Leighton Baines. Otherwise not so silly money and for a different reason, Cedric Evina.

1. What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why?

I have felt for the last few seasons we could do with two decent full backs. Currently we employ centre half's or midfielders to cover these positions. Having two decent full backs would help the team both defensively and in attack.

2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why?

Alot of fans might choose Zola or Lanfield, however I would say Chris Clark before those two. He would be on a decent wage and unfortunately he has been on the treatment table more often than not. Whereas Lanfield is in decent form and Zola has shown glimmers of hope this season.

3. What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why?

Zola without a doubt. The middle striker is such an important position in the system Aberdeen are playing as they need to hold up the ball and bring others into the game as well as score goals. Unfortunately we have not seen alot of these attributes from the man who once was on the books of Newcastle United.

4. Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why?

In terms of importance to the 1983 team, I think the $300,000 (plus Ian Scanlon) of Peter Weir from Saint Mirren is worth a mention. In more recent times Scot Severin was in my opinion the catalyst of the Jimmy Calderwood era.

5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why?

From an attacking point of view you have to say Naill McGinn as he is the one true out and out goal scorer in the team. However this season success has been built on a strong defensive unit and Mark Reynolds has been instrumental at the back. He must surely be the most underrated defender in Scotland.

6. What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why?

Peter Pawlett. Over the years he has shown much promise but failed to deliver on a regular basis due to persistent injury problems and lack of regular first team football. Last seasons loan move to Saint Johnstone seems to have done him the world of good in addition to being playing through the middle by the current management.

7. If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi!)

If money was no object I would love Aberdeen to sign some of the bright young talent that is emerging at other clubs. Whilst they are our New Firm rivals, Dundee United seem to have unearthed a little Scottish Messi in Gauld. He is apparently from the Aberdeen area and I am sure he would enjoy playing for a bigger club!

a full back would be nice, not had a natural full back since 1276 and with Hector going back we'll need a centre back to replace if he cant be brought back before the end of january

  2. Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why?

Chris Clark - injury prone and a waste of a wage.

  3. What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why?

Zola - he's been OK but he hasnt lived up to his own pre season hype

  4. Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why?

Duncan Shearer - Too young to remember when Miller and Strachan signed, remember them playing and they are my fvourite AFC players but remember the signing of Shearer and then the instant impact he made.

  5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why?

dont want to loose any of the main first team, we're shaping up nicely atm and dont want that disturbed

  6. What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why?

Anderson - great player but I was a little worried that age might catch up with him this season but he's playing some of the best football I think I've ever seen him play. He's playing as well as he was the season before he left.

  7. If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi! - Jack Wilshere or Steven Gerrard. Amazing players to watch.

Lol beautifully put redstar. If this doesn't make it onto the bbc website then a travesty has occurred.

What position or player(s) would you want the club to sign, and why?

Full backs as we've not had proper full backs in years. Naysmith was our only recent signing to fill that position and he spent more time injured than available. The team continually suffers from not having naturals in this position. A position that should shoulder both defensive and attacking responsibilities, but usually we are lucky if the player in that position that could fill one of those responsibilities to a suitable standard.

Any players you’d be happy to wave goodbye to, and why?

Jamie Langfield has been here now for 9 years, and has very rarely had consistent performance levels. He has a good save in him, but struggles a lot of the time with communication with defenders, control of his penalty box and distribution. His nickname of Clangers says it all.

What summer signings have still to prove themselves, and why?

Calvin Zola hasn't scored enough goals and hasn't been a good enough foil for other players to play off of. In our formation he needs to do one or the other. He has shown glimpses, but not enough.

Gregg Wylde barely features and rarely comes off the bench. Even when a game is calling out for pace on a wing, he isn't getting on. Has had opportunities with some injuries and hasn't show enough in them.

Barry Robson obviously has a level of ability beyond many of the players we have seen in an Aberdeen FC shirt in recent years. He doesn't have the legs to do as much as he once did, and it shows in his performance, which often tails off in game. He (along with the manager) has to find a role in the team that gets the best out of him but doesn't expose his weaknesses.

Who was your favourite signing of all time for your club, and why?

Eoin Jess re-signing. A great player in his first spell at the club, and was over the moon to see him re-sign.

What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why?

Niall McGinn and Peter Pawlett are the only two who are putting in performances or have a reputation that would attract clubs from down South. Pawlett has just signed a contract and is having his first prolonged spell in the team, he won't be looking to move. McGinn has to be retained, at least for this year, as he is the player most likely to pop up with a bit of magic and grab a goal in our team. It is therefore imperative for the Premiership season that he is retained, as he would be irreplaceable in the January transfer window, especially since very little, if any, of the transfer fee would be available for reinvestment.

What player has pleasantly surprised you this year, and why?

Mark Reynolds I had written off as being a defender who largely depended on his pace, but he has been consistent this year, playing very well in all areas of his game and being versatile with the lack of a natural left back in the team. If we could get a left back in, alongside Clark Robertson, Considine and Reynolds would be a solid centreback pairing for the next few years.

If money/wage restrictions were irrelevant, who would you love to see at your club, and why? (Please keep this reasonably realistic – don’t want everyone saying Messi!

Andrew Robertson at Dundee United. There are talk of 7 figure fees for him already, and he is a left back who possesses excellent ability, both from an attacking and defensive perspective. The kind of player that Aberdeen have been crying out for at least 10-15 years now.

  5. What player must you absolutely keep during the window, and why? McGinn, he is a bit off of it this season compared to last but we need all the goals we can get

Looks like the beeb cut down quite a bit in editing. The inclusion of Pawlett was completely taken out.

I dont agree with a single word of that, Andrew Robertson ffs!

There are umpteen others we could use before I'd consider him.

Should have added your own then.
