Maybe found his level?

Or maybe Hartley has a better eye for potential than the likes of Jim Leighton & that's why he took him as one of his first signings for Alloa.

Guess only time will tell but one things sure as fuck & that is that Jim Leighton has no clue about goal keepers even though he was a goal keeping legend himself.

Agree f and d. Don't get me wrong, it can't be easy to spot a good keeper at that age. But it would be just our luck if he went on to be a top class keeper and gets sold for good money.

I agree that keepers are probably the hardest to spot at a young age because more often than not they don't hit true form until later than outfield players.

Problem for us is that Old Jimbo cannot spot a decent keeper at ANY fkn age.

I'm with Dom on this way, fair play to the lad for performing well but so many players can look good at that level and then fail to make the step up for whatever reason.

Lets see how he develops and progresses in a "top" league before we go slating the club.

Or do we just sign every youngster in fear that they may become good??

Poor post chief...you can add Twardzik to the list of keepers chucked to keep the clown prince in employment...his continued involvement with the club stinks.

Care to explain?

You wanted the club to keep a keeper that they didn't rate and now cause he's kept clean sheets (in the 1st division) the club have made an error?

Clangers has had lots of clean sheets, does that make him a good keeper? (or even a decent one?)

The answer......

DOES IT FUCK.

PH isn't going to come out and slate his keeper after so many CS. Lets see if the lad builds on it and can do it at the "top" level.

Haha. I just find it arrogant to write off a keepers performances because he plays in the 1st division. Playing for a part time team who were in the 3rd division a year and a half ago... He's up against it to be fair.

It's the same as judging the likes of Fox, Kello, McDonald etc. as shite just because they are playing in teams that are shipping loads of goals because the whole team is Struggling.

& also the same as saying the Likes of Clangers must be playing well because his defence is playing fantastic (for the most part).

I have NEVER seen Bain play so will with hold judgement on him but he's certainly done himself no harm since being released by us & working his way up the divisions from the bottom in a short time.

No one has stated that the lad is rubbish, just that why slate the club over a player that's had clean sheets in the first division when our current keeper has had his fair share of clean sheets and is still a poor choice.

Same rules apply huh Redstar.

Being honest never heard of Twardzik, where's he now that makes us look so daft?

He is currently in goals for Motherwell for Motherwell on a short term emergency loan from Dundee, where he hasn't played a game. I don't think he makes us look daft, but he kept a clean sheet against us last week.

My main point is that he is that by all accounts he should go all the way to the top. I would consider re-signing him, no shame in that.

The top stars of the lower leagues

Given the rapid rise of Scott Bain over the last two-and-a-half years, one can only imagine if the coaching staff at Aberdeen’s youth academy have regretted their failure to recognise his talent at an earlier juncture. Released by the Dons in 2011, Bain was immediately recruited by Paul Hartley at Alloa Athletic and established himself as one of the finest young goalkeepers in the lower leagues at. It is entirely likely that the player could be competing against his former club soon enough: despite rejecting offers from full-time teams in the summer to remain at Recreation Park, it can only be a matter of time before he moves to bigger things.

Having previously been selected for Scotland’s U-19 squads, Bain made his first senior appearance during a loan spell with Elgin City at the beginning of the 2010-11 campaign. Although Elgin were largely dismal during his time at the club, the goalkeeper played well when called upon and kept four clean sheets in 11 appearances between August and November. Despite being well regarded by his coaches at Aberdeen, he was allowed to leave the club at the end of the season. Coincidentally, Paul Hartley was also departing Pittodrie at the same time to take up the manager’s role at the recently relegated Alloa; the pair agreed terms and Bain was swiftly drafted into the new manager’s squad.

Bain’s adjustment to part-time football was trying, and he struggled throughout the opening of 2011-12. By the beginning of November, he had collected two red cards, the second of which came in a 0-5 mauling at Elgin where he was cautioned twice after conceding two penalties. But as Alloa began to take control of the division, Bain improved dramatically. The rashness that pockmarked his early career at the club was gradually coached out of him and as the Wasps have climbed through the leagues, the goalkeeper has developed impressively.

Indeed, as Alloa continue to ride the crest of a wave, Bain has excelled. His shot-stopping is inarguably his finest quality, but he possesses all the other attributes to succeed: his distribution, both short and form distance is sound; he commands his area well, communicating with his defenders; and he shows bravery when coming from his line when necessary. With a stable and assiduous back four ahead of him, Bain’s job is made more straightforward but is does not diminish the brilliance of his recent performances – since the beginning of November, he has kept five clean sheets in his previous seven matches, including shut-outs against the fancied Raith Rovers and Hamilton Academical.

Bain justified his decision to stay at Alloa by claiming he would be afforded more opportunities for first-team football under Hartley than elsewhere, but whether or not he is as magnanimous about his career in January remains to be see. For the moment at least, Aberdeen’s loss is most certainly Alloa’s gain. CGT

He is at Dundee, but has been loaned to Motherwell. Played against us, managing to keep a clean sheet. Therefore he is amazing and we have let the best keeper ever leave for nothing !

He also had a clean sheet the week before against St Mirren but conceded one against Partick so he is shite.

Actually had a couple of decent saves against Partick though

Alloa boss Paul Hartley reckons other clubs will be contacting him about goalkeeper Scott Bain when the transfer window opens.

The 22-year-old has been a stand-out for the Wasps since joining from Aberdeen in the summer of 2011.

He said: “I brought Scott down from Aberdeen and put him in my first team as a teenager. He makes a couple of outstanding saves in every game but we just expect that of him now.

“He is the best young goalkeeper in Scotland and I do not think he will be with us much longer. I'd be delighted if we got to the end of January and he was still an Alloa player but it is getting harder every transfer window to keep him.”

Would he even come back to us if we offered him a deal now as No.2?

Knowing full well that Jimbo is getting his cock sucked by Clangers.
