boboisared
Do you consider him a club legend or would he have to win a trophy to be considered as such? I personally view him as a legend but I've only been on the go 26 years, have only physically seen us win one trophy etc. He was at one point the best defender in Scotland by a country mile and would have had a helluva lot more caps for the national team if he played for the former OF. He also donated his signing on fee back to the club when he signed for Sunderland. i understand for the older lot they probably would not hold him in that high regard due to Miller/McLeish etc but if we were to do that with every player it would be impossible for any single player to scale those heights. Stoney
Absolutely a club legend in my view. Lifting a trophy will only cement that case further. 1 Link to comment
zander
I'm with you there bobo best player to play for us since I've been to watch the Dons, I'd already call him a legend.Would he be up there as one of our greatest players never to have won a trophy for the Dons? Link to comment
dave_min
He'll be a legend to me either way. Due to my age, I consider him to be more of a legend than either McLeish or Miller. Link to comment

Stoney
By the end of the season he will be number 4 in terms off most appearances for outfield players. If anybody deserves to lift a cup its russ 1 Link to comment
a don in oz
wtf... are you all 12 or something? More of a legend than McLeish or Miller... Find it hard to consider him a legend given the dross he has been playing with over the years and the lack of anything approaching success for the club. However for his general demeanour and attitude towards the club and if we win both cups this season then I'd say fair enough. But never more than those names above. Link to comment
Clydeside_Sheep
I like Russell a lot, but I don't think hes a legend. Hes been one of our better players in a poor few decades. I would say Brian Irvine was a legend, before Russ, never mind Miller and McLeish etc. Of course, after Russ leads us to double-cup glory, 2nd place in the league and a decent euro-run next year, then I will be more than happy to reconsider my appraisal of him. I would say to be a genuine legend you have to be either very successful and / or a cult figure. Link to comment
Miglo don
It's all a matter of opinion. I remember Miller and big Eck and would still very much count Anderson as a legend. Link to comment

When you finish murdering prostitutes for the day, care to share who has been more of a legend to the club throughout my 26 years of being a Dons fan? Link to comment

Think the Miller/Mcleish was a throwaway comment but Ando is still a legend. Anderson is the best player I've seen in my time supporting Aberdeen I'm not going to talk about the glory days before I was born in 20 years time. Link to comment

fatjim
Legend. 1. a nonhistorical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. 2. the body of stories of this kind, especially as they relate to a particular people, group, or clan: the winning of the West in American legend. 3. an inscription, especially on a coat of arms, on a monument, under a picture, or the like. 4. a table on a map, chart, or the like, listing and explaining the symbols used. Compare key1 ( def 8 ) . 5. Numismatics , inscription ( def 8 ) . Quite sure he is none of the above. The word legend is used too much these days. Would be very pleased if he could lift a trophy though. He thoroughly deserves it. Link to comment

Sonoftherock
Player of very limited ability, who proved what can be done with the correct attitude. Went to my old school and played for the school team when I think they won the Scottish cup? Teachers told us he wasn't even one of the best players in the School team! I was a season ticket holder when he was just coming through. I remember how utterly hopeless he was at first. What an unbelievable turn around though? Maximised his own potential as a player and should be extremely proud of everything he has achieved. I really hope he gets to lift a trophy this season. The very least he deserves. A legend IMO. Fair enough we've been shite for most of the time he's player for us - but in some ways that makes his Aberdeen performances even more impressive. Terrific strength of character to stand up for himself and the team when all around him were crumbling. Link to comment

StandFree1982
Saying someone is only a legend because they have won something is nonsense. Many clubs who've won fuck all have their "legends", it's down to what the player has brought to the club, his attitude and his commitment. Anderson has been immense at the club in both spells and he's a born leader on the park, as shown this season. Jess was a legend and he won very little at the Dons. I didn't know this till now, but Jess was joint top scorer in the 93/94 European Cup Winners Cup. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
No-one deserves the treble more! Certainly put Russ on a par with Brian Irvine. Willing to cut their legs off and chuck them at the attacker if thats what it took. Agree he's suffered with some of the pish around him, and behind him. Link to comment
newcastlered
I think it depends on if Aberdeen fans are still talking about him in 10 - 20 years time. I'll consider him a legend if like my dad told me about miller etc I tell my son about Anderson. Legends are the players you'd put in your best team and talk about in a good way for years to come. minijc
I'm 22 and he's the only player in my time of following Aberdeen that has always played for the shirt and put in the efforts required to play for this great club and even be considered as a legend, to me he is and he's one player that deserves a trophy. Dandydon D
Players Like Ando are hard to come by these days. Model pro and completely dedicated to AFC.He moved to the EPL and deserved it 100%. At the time he was the best defender in the SPL. Wouldnt put him in the same league as miller/ mcleish etc but in my time following AFC he is the closest I have seen. In my eyes he is a Dons legend. AFC through and through. Link to comment
