mavv1903
This season with Derek in charge all I was looking for was a bit of progression from the last dour bottom 6 campaigns.. At the start of the season I would have accepted top 6 finish a decent cup run and been happy with that. Since all my expectations have been passed so far this season, I was thinking to myself a cup victory and 2nd place is now my expectation for this squad and season. My how times have changed in a short period of time since the New man came in. The feel good factor is back and I have really enjoyed the majority of games this year not the usual trudge its been at times following Aberdeen What were your expectations at start of season ? ericblack4boss
Blessed is the man without expectation, for he shall never be disappointed. We had to look for steady improvements, I believed at the start of the season we could realistically look for top 4, and perhaps sneak a cup semi, What McInnes has delivered beggars belief if you consider our recent campaigns. So get it to right up you Jimmy! fine-n-dandy
Mcinnes has really worked wonders. That's for sure but in all honesty weare now only reaching a level we should expect at the bare minimum. Our expectations have dropped because we were so shite for so long. I still want more Link to comment

Ke1t
This is why I'm suspicious of managers coming in, particularly with AFC, and saying "I need 5 transfer windows to turn things around." With Aberdeen's resources it seems like someone coming in and being a halfway competent manager the club can be pretty much immediately be lifted up the table from the relegation zone. We have a recent history of massive incompetence at our club, starting at the top with Milne and working it's way all the way down. You get in someone who actually knows what they're doing and it's as though Jesus has waved a magic wand and performed some fantastical miracle of overachievement. In reality, though, this is how a club like Aberdeen should always be performing. We don't perform as we should because Stewart Milne. And, not to look too far ahead, our track record of hiring absolute muppets means that when McInnes inevitably goes.... Link to comment

Dandyesque
'Because' is being used as a preposition. Cool. Might you not want to use an adjective with it? Link to comment
Ke1t
Cool. Might you not want to use an adjective with it? Not when I'm using it as a because noun, no. Link to comment
Dandyesque
Using what as a because noun? A "Stewart Milne"? It might be argued as grammatically correct, but it would be simultaneously non-sensical. Appropriate however, given that the Stewart Milne in question appointed Alex Miller as Aberdeen manager Link to comment

Stewart Milne is a twat because Alex Miller. ..and other reasons too numerous to mention, but I could probably be persuaded to mention them anyway. Link to comment

CalgaryDon
I personally hadn't a scooby how we as a club would perform under DM. It was a fairly quiet/ slightly out of the blue appointment, to which I feel a large majority of fans were dreading. I personally felt it was the strangest appointment, in the sense that for once the fans were not voicing an opinion of who they wanted to takeover from Brown and in fact it was the board who ultimately made the final decision. I thought it was an excellent decision to bring DM in before the end of the season as it allowed him to assess the squad and get to grips with how the club ran overall. The fact DM has acted swiftly in each (2) transfer window when it has opened! Instead of what we seem to be traditionally known for I.e. last minute panic buys for quite simply, awful players, has made the world of good. I'm shocked and appalled that he had to incorporate nutrition and sports science into our club. Obviously naive of me to think that a club the size of Aberdeen in the modern era of the game, would be on top of this. He conducts himself well throughout interviews regardless of what may have occurred on the pitch and has clearly told his players to adopt this manner, neutralizing any big heads and keeping everyones feet firmly on the ground. He has installed a team mentality which has appeared to be missing for the past several seasons, Instead of focusing all the attention on individual players, for instance McGinn last season (he was our best player and the team formation was formulated around him for that reason). As a result many of our players both young and old are flourishing. There really is a togetherness, a community that he has brought back to Aberdeen which is being reflected in the slight increase in home attendances along with our superb travelling support in addition to potential 30+ thousand Aberdeen fans attending the league cup final in March. I truly hope that as a club we continue to grow and that we have many further years of progression under Derek Mcinnes. Milne should be acting accordingly by penning Derek Mcinnes down for the long term. Link to comment

This was undone by a succession of managers Link to comment

Bamber
I have always felt a successful season is one in which We win more than draw and lose at homeWe win more than win or draw awayGo out of the cups with less games to go than played it will be interesting to see how realistic this is as a desire for success Link to comment

The Boofon
I still expect us to win the league. We still can. The Tims were on a freak run of results. The league isn't over yet although I'm a touch worried that our cup runs will bother our league performance. Link to comment

a don in oz
So the last time we had a manager bringing in dietary, and sport science, we reached two cup finals, and this season we have reached one cup final Don't equate the two because the flipside is the last time we had a manager etc etc, we finished bottom of the table and were only not relegated (or into a playoff at least) on a technicality. I left in January midway through his first season so don't get the hero worship of him. 6 or 7 games without a goal? I was in the crowd going mental when Dow took his barmy army into raptures when we actually scored but it was pish. The team was pish playing pish. He was pish. Sports science isn't. Glad we've got a non-pish manager in who also believes in it. Link to comment
