CalgaryDon
Great news if we can get him on the long term. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aberdeen-manager-derek-mcinnes-set-3198015? Link to comment
ericblack4boss
I think we all agree that McInnes is going to be a wanted man that is a sign of his achievements, there is going to be an inquiry from The Rangers, that is surely a given . But I've stated on here before that in think he would relish another crack at a job in England he feels he had unfinished business.W can be confident that only the Rangers are likely to tempt him away in Scotland, but in England I am certain many clubs will have him on their radar, especially WBA, and ex captain, and popular player during his time, Would they be a step up, well if a step up means in with a chance of Europe manslaughter stages of cups every season then the answer had to be probably not.If a step up is being a club similar to ours run prudently, with a steady fanbase, and with greater spending power then it's a no-brainer. It depends what drives McInnes, money or ambition Link to comment

ericblack4boss
The FIFA fair play factor is going to be a big consideration now, managers who build squads on players purchased ( ie the OAF) will not have a place at provincial clubs in future. Link to comment
Ke1t
Just tell him we won't stand in his way if a club comes in and he wants to leave. But if we have him on a long term contract they'll have to pay us compensation. A million or two for an English club is sweetie money, but for us it means the difference between bringing in a shirt filler and a footballer. Link to comment

Ke1t
Agreed...Milne's Ill-timed quotes in the Sunday Mason have forced the issue at just the wrong time...what a twat (again) We're looking like we're going to finish second in the league, win one cup and look good for another. So Milne comes out and unsettles the team at the exact moment they should be focusing on football. And people think this is accidental on Milne's part? Link to comment

Clydeside_Sheep
This is good news, though personally I would have left the announcement until after he had signed. It is encouraging to see long-term thinking from the club. Agree with kelt that we should assure him about not trapping him; I think McInnis is the kind of guy who would prefer to see a team he is leaving get some form of compo. I think its inenvitable that, if he does well for us over a few years, he will increasingly be tempted by the bigger challenge / money / stage of english football. When does his current deal expire? Stoneybloke
His obvious choice would be West Brom, but since they could quite easily go down to the Championship this year, and probably stay there if they do, he's not likely to want to go down that route again. As for Rangers, remember that Ferguson repelled their approaches when he was Aberdeen manager. Give Derek the appreciation and a long contract and he will do the same. He loves Aberdeen. Bigslick
If this gets sorted this week it would be a tremendous boost for all at the club prior to the two cup games. If it doesn't get sorted then it is very badly timed and an unwelcome distraction from two very important games. 1 Link to comment
Stoneybloke
Mcinnes will 100% manage The Rangers. The way you guys keep going on about him being a certainty for Rangers suggests that you actually want him to go. Very strange attitude. 1 Link to comment
Dandyesque
Good that he's been made an offer - more important that he signs it. He's signed a few players on extended deals recently, so you would get the impression he's trying to build something. I'd expect him to sign up for another season Link to comment
dj_bollocks
I don't think that doing this now is bad timing at all... He'll be in much higher demand when we win the cup in 2 weeks time. The earlier it's all sorted the better. My only minor concern would be second season slump.... Link to comment
1983
The way you guys keep going on about him being a certainty for Rangers suggests that you actually want him to go. Very strange attitude.I've said repeatedly, and months ago, that I want him to stay and that he needs to be offered a longterm contract. We could offer him a 2 year extension and he'll bite our hands off - but that is the wrong thing to do. We need to give him an extension that keeps him here until the rangers have at least a couple of seasons back in the top flight. I make it 1.5 years till then, plus add a year for sally to be given the chance to fuck it up, and then they'll come calling. We need to protect ourselves and test his commitment. The contract extension we need to offer him is minimum 4.5 years. That secures us compensation, and allows us to gauge his plans. Link to comment

a don in oz
It was a quote...Milne doesn't need to say anything. I don't know if he said it or not but that attitude is naive at the extreme. Unless you actually see or hear the recording of them saying the words... don't take anything the press say is a "quote" as being necessarily absolutely true. They are good at mixing up phrasing, truncating, and attributing quotes as answers to different questions. 1 Link to comment

spamspamspam
Fucking hell, some even manage to moan when our chairman backs his manager to the hilt (within the confines of our club structure) and then says he'll be offered a new deal to match the long term deals he has been giving the players. He'll sign, it wouldnt be talked about if he wont. He's just signed up players, our best players on 2 year extensions that will see us have this team together until at least 2016/17 seasonMilne has just said he's worked wonders and will be offered a new deal.Yule is pulling all the strings internallyNot an achievement but a massive mark of our progress is that we've won our 'top 6 trophy' with 7 games to go instead of scrambling around on the last day before the split hoping for a favour from Cally or Hibs and the manager hasnt said hey, job done. We are stronger now when it comes to playing staff, contracts and the back office side of the club than we've been for 20 years. We are 2nd, in 1 cup final and 1 cup quarter against a team we should beat. We will be in 2 semi's this year barring a catastrophe, hopefully 2 finals, have a serious chance of winning more than Celtic this season, finishing the highest up the league we have in decades, our major SPFL rivals are all heading south while we are climbing the league and there's a very good chance at the end of this season AFC will hold the place in the Scottish game ts meant to hold but hasnt for the first time in almost 30 years. Now, Milne has almost run the club into the ground but he and Yule are also behind the resurrection we are seeing right now. We've suffered, lets try and enjoy it eh. If it all goes pear shaped at the end of the season then moan but for now why not try and enjoy the ride and see where it takes us. 5 Link to comment
