Ronnie McDevitt
Hi guys. I am currently writing the biography of Ally MacLeod looking at his whole career with his time at Pittodrie covered in some depth.During my research I can see he spent a lot of time promoting the club in the city meeting supporters and am keen to get some more information on this angle.I was hoping older members may have some memories of his dealings with the supporters clubs or other functions? If you can help I would be most grateful. fine-n-dandy
He didn't retain the world cup. In fact he didn't even win it once. Link to comment

Tommy
When he was appointed manager he came along to a meeting of Northern Lights SC.He was like a breath of fresh Ayr for want of a better expression. His exuberance for the club was something else and he was a character.Winning the league cup against Celtic was the pinnacle but he kicked offthe start of many great years for the support.A great appointment and a real nice man. Tactically hopeless but he had an enthusiasm which got us all going. 1976 league cup win was Willie Miller's first trophy. Had he not taken the Scotland job he would have been sacked within 18 months. Good guy though. Link to comment
1980EasterRoad
I was at the Aberdeen Celtic LC Final in 1976 and Ally instilled a confidence in the team after the barren Bonthrone years. Also was at the semi-final when we humped Rangers 5-1. Suffice to say he carried on the great work started in the late 60's by Eddie Turnbull (both sadly gone). Ally brought an enthusiasm to the club and turned us back into winners. I shall never forget the influence he had on the club and city. The good work was then carried on by Billy McNeill (even though we did not win anything in his one season in charge). Link to comment
Robbie Winters
Back then The Dons trained in Seaton Park and I presume it was pre-season. Me and a couple of wee pals were hanging about watching it. McLeod came over and asked us to be ball boys as he joked Bobby Clark could not save a fin thing and balls were fizzing past him. As a 6-7 year old I was in total awe that the AFC manager came and asked us personally to help with training. At the end he let us take a few shots at Clark and I think John Gardiner. I remember he got us a win over Rangers at Pittodrie in his first season and that acted as a catalyst for the club to prove they were heading in the right direction. He was never scared to show his emotions with a win and at that point in my opinion the seed was sewn for the Aberdeen of the 80's as the fans had renewed belief in someone. Link to comment
