Worst ever Dons results

Recommended Posts

What are your shouts for the worst ever Dons results?

It doesnt have to be classified purely according to what a result cost us, in terms of the league or a cup.

You could also choose results which - for example - had a deeply negative affect on your personal life / social confidence, or which caused you to be mercilessly abused by others.

I think I would choose:

1) the 2-0 defeat from Stenhousemuir (94 I think); we were still regarded as decent side back then and that result was a real shock. Accordingly I took a real power of abuse for that - way over the top, in fact - and i remember it ruining at least one night out. I remember feeling physically sick when I heard the score that day - thats how much of a shock it was - but I wouldnt bat an eyelid at that these days lol

(the calderwood era cup shockers were water off a ducks back to me, after this).

2) the 5-0 pumping we got from st Johnstone that time (forget which year); I remember my dad bursting into the house chanting "St johnstone, St johnstone" (the c*nt) and proceeded to gloat - I had not heard the score independently and refused to believe him. When I did confirm the score via the TV resuls, I still refused to believe it and figured he must have roped the TV company into his ruse somehow. Turns out he was right, the c*nt.

It cost me a pound but Aberdeen 1 Livingston 6 was very embarrassing.

Zalgris Vilnius also a shocker (despite going through).

Those 2 are up there for me. I won't be speaking about a certain semi final, I shudder.

Livi pumping at home was by far the most embarrassing game I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through.

Worst for me was the 9-0 Celtic. Then the cup semi.

Shitty cup reversals happen but that 9-0 was a thrashing and a humiliation and when you thought it couldn't get any worse and wanted the world to swallow you up, that yeknow fucking neep came out with his only 3 points slap.

In terms of our history, 2_0 game in May 1991. Probably changed course of everyone's history. By that I mean Miller being rushed into the job etc.

That would actually be my second... wow. Amazing I blotted that bastard out but that hurt. Probably the worst hurt after a result ever because I fully expected us to win that. It was crushing. Celtic the 9-0 was the only time I've outright felt real rage at us. Not pissed off but rage.

Compared to those two losing a cup semi against a small team was painful but... shit happens.

Ugh.

Oooft! Aye right enough, Ibrox May 1991.

I had the dreadful misfortune to be at that game, but sitting amongst the barbarian hordes. And thus was a life-long hatred born.

11th May 1991

Everything else can be brought back to that.

Without a doubt that was the worst result in our history.

Horrendous.

Absolutely horrendous.

I'd take a 20-0 from Celtic any day of the week to turn that game the other way.

Alex fucking Smith you'll never be forgiven you absolute cunt.

Sigma Olomouc at home was pretty bad, if only because it did confirm that the Dons had actually spent all summer doing f4ck all but splashing about in rivers in Austra, and that Mcgoo was a buffon. Deek Young at RB ffs.

Dundee Utd in Roy Aitken last game was poor, Windass sent off three times.

Alway rememb home to ST JOhnstone in Ebbes first season, when we were losing very week without scoring, we lost 3-0, Solberg made his debut and we were just terrible.

Bohemians too, f4cks sake.

I was at Ochilview that day. Brutal.

5-0 at Ibrox was brutal. Think it was a few days after we beat the Tims 3-2.

QotS was gutting.

I'd imagine the pumpings from Livi at home must have been amongst the worst. I was in a football supporting exile back then so wasn't at those games.

I made a last minute decision to not go to the Celtic game that ended up 9-0 but I'd put that one at the top of the pile of the most horrific results.

Typical Aberdeen fans though. Having our first decent season since 19 oat cake but we insist on re-living these awful memories. :clangers2:

It's funny how that livvie game lives long in the mind. There were two games against them around the same time. I vividly remember thinking these 11 cunts in red are just taking the piss. All the shite about being the 12th man disappeared that day. Big support and the team will respond etc etc. fuck off. The team can put in the performance and I will decide whether I will respond from the golf course!

QoTS wasn't particularly damaging as such. Turn up with an oaf in charge and only one game plan and you deserve everything we got.

May 91 had repercussions but my recollection is getting a second chance (did they not get beat when they should have tied it up the week before?), they were half the England national team at the time and the GIRFUY so carefully nurtured by ferguson had been firmly replaced by Smiffy's showing the mighty gers respect attitude by that time. Cunt.

In my time:

the semi final

Bohemians

Raith Rovers defeat under McGhee

9-0

then all the other cup shocks - dunfermline worse than east fife, queens park or any of the livvie ones

thru history:

obviously ibrox 91 and porto 84 would appear to be the biggest If only's

From a 'worst I've ever felt after a game' point of view - Queen of the South.

I've never left a game before the end. And I didn't that day. But I know I was up the stairs and out of Hampden before I'd even seen any QotS players celebrate. I can't really remember the journey home either. Just utterly soul destroying.

But from a historical point of view as others have said - 11th May 1991. So many things wouldn't have happened had that result gone the other way.

All the bad times that we've had in recent times, they live long in the memory - but what McInnes is building is going a long way to wipe those memories.

Quite. It's a bit hard to stomach when two years ago, it was ALL Liverpool and he went to one game at Pittodrie a year, if that.

I've seen a few bad ones in my days, but some random games have left me feeling shite about The Dons.

When I was studying for my final exams years back, it was a Saturday morning and I was sitting up at Kings College. Me and a mate decided to take a few hours off study and go to Pittodrie, justifying it to ourselves by saying the break would be good for us and we'd come back refreshed. We had a couple of snifters in the Bobbin and went along to watch a fucking horrible 1-0 defeat to Motherwell, with absolutely fuck all effort from any Dons on the park. I thought about giving up club football that day - in fact I think the next season I only went along about three times. Studying micro-paleontology didn't feel so bad that evening, it was better than the afternoon's entertainment. It's sad when foraminifera are the highlight of your day.

Another game I left feeling shite was a few years later. I took half a dozen African collegues to a match against Livi at home. Most of them had to be persuaded that 20 quid was a good spend to go to Pittodrie. It was freezing. It was a turgid 0-0 draw. They couldn't comprehend why I went and paid to watch that level of football. These were Nigerians, Congolese and Angolans - slagging off Scottish league football. I found it hard to disagree with them. The little Botswanan cunt who decided to wait the entire game for us outside the Soother entrance on Merkland Road had the right idea. He even said no thanks when they offered to let him in for free just after half-time.

The really bad defeats I've managed to stomach - mainly because everyone else was in those together. The thing that hurt me most about the games above was that they were at a time when the vast majority of the Aberdeen support had accepted that the team was just going to be shite, and that was it.
