daytripping
Was just reading about a botched execution, well not really botched just took longer to work than usual, see link. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/04/30/botched-oklahoma-execution-reignites-death-penalty-debate/?tid=pm_pop On the back of this campaigners are calling for executions to be banned and one scheduled for last night has been suspended for a fortnight. I can see both sides of the argument but the next guy to go in the chair raped and killed an 11 Month old baby, for that he doesn't deserve to live imo, if anyone can suggest a good enough reason why I'm wrong it would be good to hear? I'm all for it but can see the injections might not be reliable, for that reason I'd suggest bringing back the rope, quick and easy, no messing around. One of the comments was interesting, they suggested you be killed in the same manner you killed your victim/s, that would be pretty interesting but not impossible in practise. Are you for or against the death penalty? Link to comment
daytripping
Giving the killer a chance to win his right to live might be good as well, gladiator style in a pit against lions, tigers and bears, that kind of stuff, would make cracking tv. 1 Link to comment
diamondsr4ever
the death penalty is used as a comfort for people of victims, some people sit on death rown for 20-25 odd years at huge costs to the tax payer, Im against it, I say life should be life under the most hardest of conditions, that to may is fair, just and dosent allow society to think that by removing a life, it removes the problem. buchanskii
Against it. I'd only be for it in cases of terrorism where the evidence is incontestable, for example those pricks that killed drummer lee rigby. Link to comment
StandFree1982
For it. But shouldn't be a lengthy Death Row. If it's proven and is a suitable crime, then it should just be a bullet to the head, saving cost and time. Link to comment

boboisared
My girlfriend saw a report the other day. Some guy (foreign country) had raped his own child and was sentenced to a long time in jail. He was gang raped by quite a lot of disgusted inmates to such an extent he had to have his arsehole sewn back together. The next day the inmates picked his stitches out and gang raped him again. That guy probably wishes he got the rope. Link to comment
Jonty
Against. If of everybody executed from now until then end of time, only one of them was innocent, then I dont see how you can justify it. Link to comment

looksgoodinred
As much as I think there are people on this earth deserving of the death penalty, I'd have to say I'm against. There's just too many instances of people found innocent of crimes they were incarcerated for, even many years later (David Milgaard as a very famous Canadian case comes to mind, but there are many more). If it were your child, for instance, who'd been jailed for a crime that you knew them to be innocent of, i can't believe you'd support the death penalty. Link to comment
spamspamspam
I'm more for euthanasia than the death penalty If someone commits a heinous crime, rape, murder, child molesting etc then try to rehabilitate. If they cant be because they are wired wrongly then put them and society out of their collective miseries. Crime must be 100% proven and the criminal must be beyond help before killing them. Give them say 24 months to show major progress them make a decision. 1 Link to comment
daytripping
What about if there's no way the person is innocent, say caught on camera like the Lee Rigby killers, would it change the mind of those worried about killing an innocent? Should we really have to pay to keep these people in jail the rest of their natural life's? Link to comment
fatjim
Totally against it. Doesn't work as a deterrent. Errors can be made in convictions and were made in the past. We did the right thing in stopping it. Life in prison is a much better punishment. If we were to bring the death penalty back we might as well go the whole way and bring in Sharia law. 2 Link to comment

Poodler
Ok here's one. Someone who killed a burglar who was about to rape his child. Home owner pulls out a shotgun and blows the rapists head off. Admits killing him in self defence. Should he be killed for being a murderer? Link to comment

Cost doesn't come into it for me anyway, the big black dude who raped and killed a 11 Month old has given up his right to live in society imo, off with his head!! What's the alternative, 3 meals a day, tv and playstation in his cell, all the drugs he'd ever want, fresh air every day. Fuck that, he doesn't deserve any of it. If the alternative was hard labour breaking rocks or something then I'd maybe have a different opinion. Link to comment

He's the guy in charge of running the Maricopa County (Arizona) jail and is somewhat (in)famous for his approach to corrections work. It's hard time for prisoners sentenced to his Tent City Jail, where he's banned smoking, coffee and nudie magazines. The prison serves meals just twice a day, each costing 15 cents on average. There's no AC in the 120 degree desert heat, and prisoners work on chain gangs and wear the old-style black and white uniforms.Sheriff Joe's lastest approach to managing prisoner behavior is to wire the TVs in the prison to exercise bikes that power the sets when pedaled. Seeing that half of the inmate population is overweight, many morbidly so, Arpaio decided that if inmates want to access to their favorite pastime - watching TV - they now have to pedal for that privilege."I started with the females because they seemed more receptive to the idea," Arpaio says. "The only exercise the females get right now is speed walking around the tents yard and few are doing that. This gives them a reason to get moving and a way to burn up to 500 calories an hour. They won't be charged a monthly gym fee but they will have to sign a contract."There's no dogging it on these bikes, either. If the pedal cadence falls below the necessary output to power the TV, after an audible warning, the set turns off. "Peer pressure will have them pedaling, at least right up to the commercial breaks," says Sheriff Joe. Link to comment

How's he managed all of the above? Link to comment
