Scotland v England. Cricket @ Mannofield 09/05/14

Recommended Posts

There are more cricket players in Scotland than there are in England (per capita). Scotland's team should really be quite a bit better than it is. Mismanagement, same as the fitba.

Does that per capita statistic take into account the populations of Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ireland and Wales?

A few Englishers and South Africans in 'our' side.

1 South African in the squad, who has stayed in Scotland since he joined Gordonstoun school on a cricket and rugby scholarship.

2 born in England, but have Scottish parents,

Fuck knows what connections Iain Wardlaw has to Scotland, but the country he played for Yorkshire, released him from his contract on Friday,

4 of the Squad were born in Aberdeen.

ODIs and T20 are the two best forms to watch, tests matches are ok but drag, for excitement T20 is one of the best sports for it, never a dull a match.

Your prediction of Delhi Daredevils winning the IPL looks unlikely, 7th out of 8.

You couldn't have picked a worse match to be fair! That is an annihilation in T20 terms.

Having said that, I'm not a massive fan of the short form either. However, the big bash is quite entertaining as a spectacle. Every time I've attended I've been lucky with a really close match and Perth always seem do really well!

Test cricket is brilliant though. Rarely spectacular (although Mitchell Johnson had some electrifying moments this summer), I enjoy the mental side of things. The tactical battle over 5 days, the personalities, who'll crack first, etc.. I hate the english team, but it was fascinating watching themselves watching them slowly building an all conquering side over past the decade, only to disintegrate in the most spectacular fashion this summer. Similarly I've followed Australia at close quarters over the past 4 years, dragging themselves out of the biggest depression and growing back into a competitive test team. The pressure test match players are under is incredible, particularly in Australia, when one split second misjudgment could break a career that has taken years to build. I have massive respect for these guys who play at the top level - you must have to have incredible levels of concentration and nerve. That is without taking into consideration how much it would hurt to be hit by a 150km/h delivery from Mitchel Johnson!

Can completely appreciate why folk don't like cricket though. Doesn't have the action of sports like football and Rugby - it's just something completely different.
