La Decima - Interesting Real Madrid History

Recommended Posts

So, Real Madrid are European Champions for the 10th time, eh?

Sure, they get beat by teams like the famous Aberdeen every so often, but its not a bad record after all.

Well done to them.

Ever wondered who taught Real Madrid how to play the sexy football?

It was a team of English trainee-Catholic priests (no shit).

In 1907, Real Madrid had just won their third consecutive Spanish league title and, feeling unstoppable, issued an open challenge to any team who wanted to play them.

A team of Catholic Seminarians, from the Royal English College in Valladolid took up the offer.

They hammered Real Madrid 6-2.

The match report at the time in La Correspondencia de España also extolled the virtues of the English trainee priests, the football played by the seminarians of Valladolid being one of study, precision and accuracy. It seems to all intents and purpose to have been learnt from a textbook. The seminarians did not waste a pass and all 11 players moved like one with one intelligence and one will controlling their every movement and thought. There is no doubt if this team played in the Spanish league it would have won it for sure, and the reporter went on to say that he had never seen football played like this in Spain, not even from visiting international teams.

Much later, a famous Real Madrid name paid tribute to the team of student priests who had humbled the big-shots:

Fr Linehan, who captained the college side and played as goalkeeper, later served with great distinction as a Chaplain with the East Lancashire Regiment in the Dardanelles, Mesopotamia and Gallipoli. In the late 1950s while attending a football match at Old Trafford Fr Lineham, now a priest in the diocese of Salford, was introduced to Señor Santiago Bernebeu, the then president of Real Madrid who had participated in the historic football game, and Bernebeu told him: “That game changed the whole history of football in Spain by showing us how football should be played.”

I pulled something similar with Reekie Dock a few weeks ago.

Ask me anything about the Second World war.

He asks me about the paperclip project.

Never heard of it I reply.

Turns out it's some project that took place AFTER the war ended.

Fuck all to do with ww2 then. :checkit:

You've never heard of Paperclip?

Fucking shame on you... go download some Coast to Coast AM shows and expand your mind / take a trip into madness.

My own personal favourite is Operation Highjump.

Highjump is like an episode of The X Files... it starts off in a fairly straightforward manner... post World War II 'Antarctic Exercises' by the Americans.... then it starts to plummet into the rabbit-hole as other information becomes apparent, and before you know it you're not sure what's real, what's verifiable, and what the fuck actually happened.

Officially the operation began in 1946, but the roots of the operation were allegedly planted in 1939.

Would've been a great story for AM but alas a league title is still a good achievement.

Impressive from anchelotti. Got a great CV these days. Not the consistent success of a SAF but more highs.

Bale too is surpassing expectation.

CR7 had another did in a C final.

Fud.

Why will it be interesting, just as a matter of interest?

Same teams in the last 8 again is my guess, to me that is far from interesting.

I guess that's just personal opinion rather than me having a go. I just don't find it interesting at all.

I didn't even remember Ramos scoring in the 94th minute on Saturday, I was boozy but for whatever reason the CL Final this year I was more interested in playing pool than watching the game. I've seen the goals for the first time and that was only yesterday.

You said on Friday, after being out on Thursday night, you were not going to be out at the weekend tut tut, out twice in 48 hours, with a baby at home.

Even though it was years before I was born it annoys me that fucking Hibs were selected to play in the first ever European Cup despite Aberdeen being champions.

We could've horsed Real in the final of a major final 27 years before we did it in Gothenburg.

Why were Hibs chosen?

Something to do with their Chairman or something was on the board of the SFA I think.

Cheating cunts. Enjoy the Championship :swear:
