Top Goalscorer Handicap

Recommended Posts

I am looking to run a top goalscorer handicap competition next season

It will be along the lines of choosing three SPFL premiership strikers, each with a handicap between (0 and +10).

And obviously each goal they score is added to the handicap end of season highest scorer wins,

Was just wondering if anyone would be willing to take part.

My intention would be to award a handicap I felt was fair, unless you have a better system.

No a fair system is the way forward.

How will you work out what's fair.

I'll use Rooney as an example. He scored as many goals as Vernon last season for us.

Would they both have the same handicap?

Vernons must be higher as he is a free agent

only problem i see is making the handicaps after people have picked their teams will end in claims of corruption/cheats/favouritism etc etc

unless you intend giving every player in the league a rating before it starts which seems a big job

Why not take last season's top scorers tallies & handicap them according to that?

For example... Commons was top on 27, so if you class him as the bench mark of 0 & then plus everyone else according to how many less than him they scored scored.

Boyd & Sutton were each on 22, so they would be +5. May & Stokes were each on 20, so they would be +7 & so on & so on......

Any that didn't play in the SPFL for full season, or not at all could be decided some other way but at least it's a reasonably simple & fair way to start it. Rooney for example who signed half way through season could have his tally doubled & then handicapped accordingly then.

Too complicated.
