Bobby Connor
Just found out that I passed my motorbike test last January. Happy days! I must have been pished as I have no recollection of it or even taking lessons. So what's the quickest way to get myself killed? This is obviously some sort of sign that God wants me to buy a motorbike. Link to comment

ChutneyLove
Get a classic scooter. A mid 60s to mid 80s Vespa or an early to mid 60s Lambretta. 150cc+. Link to comment
ChutneyLove
As an aside and with reference to the OP - I did my bike test half kited. My bird graduated the day before, we were out in Smart Alex until 3am. The bike test was at 08:30. I wolfed down a couple of rowies on the way up to the Brig of Don test centre to try to get the alcohol off my breath. In the test centre after being out on the bike, the boy was asking me questions. I kept my hand over my mouth because I was conscious of a beer smell. He kept saying, "I can't hear you, take your hand away from your mouth."A miracle I passed. I practiced my emergency stop during my test - when he'd stopped the car and told me to go round the block. On the practice it was the first time I'd managed to stop without locking up the back tyre for at least a wee bit. Just used all front brake as my mate had advised me the night before. Two wheels beat four wheels any day. You also become a much better car driver when you're used to being on a bike. The helmets are handy if you've got a cold-sore too. Link to comment
Down Under Sheep
Depends what you want the bike for? Weekend rides in the country or daily commute. Depends if you want comfort or speed? Link to comment

ChutneyLove
You shouldn't really need accessories to express your manhood though, Blurts. Unless there is something lacking in your constitution? Link to comment

Bobby Connor
All joking aside, how come I now appear to be legal to drive a motorbike on my license but it was never there before? Tainboy reckons it's because I'm old and maybe he is right but it seems to state quite clearly that I am licensed to drive any motorbike I want. Surely some mistake I was thinking but my ex from Poland has the same on her license and with the same date of 19th Jan 2013. Can anyone clarify this as it' seems a bit odd. Link to comment
Bobby Connor
Bobby. When you die falling off your bike I bagsy your music collection.Coming from the man who nearly killed himself writing off one of his best friends M3's before it was even insured (let me know if I'm telling the tale wrongly), that is a bit of cheek. You are far more likely to die on the road than me man, especially since my turbo is out! Link to comment

ChutneyLove
It's a mistake Booby. You need to pass a bike test to ride anything bigger than a 50. Nae sure if it's still the same as it used to be, but 15 years or so ago I had to do a one day CBT, then a few lessons on a 500, then a test. It was called direct access. After it was passed I was allowed to ride any bike I wanted as long as I could afford to buy and insure it. A fucking dangerous way to do things if you ask me. Thankfully I didn't have the money to buy a Fireblade 15 years ago, or I would most likely not be sitting here typing shite to you blokes of an evening. Link to comment
Notorious Chee
Struggle to take anyone seriously when they recommend Harley's or any other shitey chopper. What's the point in having a motorbike if your going to be travelling slower round corners than a Nissan micra whilst looking like a cowboy who is not quite sure of his sexuality. 1 Link to comment
Tyrant
If it's yer first bike you want one that's reliable, good quality and not too fast. Get yourself a 125 or a 250. I only have a CBT cert so I've only ever had a 125 but my YBR125 was solid. Link to comment
The Boofon
Get a chopper and a key ring in the shape of a capital Z. Link to comment
Notorious Chee
I would advise against getting anything smaller than 400cc. A 125 is great fun for a couple of months, until you get smoked by some boy in his dad's Passat. Link to comment

Bobby Connor
I'll let you in on a wee secret lgir, I have no intention of buying a motorbike, but it's nice to have it on my license. As Tainboy quite rightly points out I would kill myself very quickly. I have owned one motorbike in my lifetime - when I was 10! It was one of these. Absolute thing of beauty looking back at it now: http://classic-motorbikes.net/images/gallery/ty80.jpg Link to comment

Bobby Connor
Not in a big way, but my pal once ended up hanging upside down by his trouser leg off a barbed wire fence after a misjudged move. The barbed wire fence saved him from landing head first in the most polluted stream you will ever see. It was a fantastic wee bike. I begged my parents for a motorbike since I was 4 and I guess this bike got it out of my system. Last time I was on a bike was a gas gas 250 trials bike a couple of years back and I had sore ribs for a month after coming off the back of it. Bloody scary amount of torque! Link to comment
