The Boofon
Anyone on here in that line of work? If so are you interested in doing one for me? Straight forward. Double skinned liner with insulation going through existing chimney. Fireplace and hearth already in place and no work required for that. Register plate needed to be made as well. 5k stove going in. Anyone had a stove fitted recently? Got a couple of quotes which were through the roof so thought someone here may assist. Link to comment

CrazyBullSheep
I had a quote from thon place in cullen or portsoy, boofter they charge 100 quid to come look at it. it was over 15 grand that was for a back boiler installation though so you might get it a lot cheaper if its just the stove and lum Link to comment

Anyways Boof why are you putting insulation in? Also you having it sitting out (like connected to the back, rather than top)? Link to comment

Insulation on it to make the draw quicker and more efficient and stop any residue soot and tar fae the lum (which has 200 years worth of use) attacking the flue. Link to comment

slippers
If had one installed lately but yet to fully test it out as I'm not living in house yet. My experience with the back boiler is that depending on size of the house if theirs too much radiators it doesn't heat them very well and if it's just to heat the water it's often a waste. From experience with my mums and dads one with the back boiler iv opted to go with a standard muli burner and open my living room door and hope the heat spreads though the house. I opted for the best looking burner I could find which in my opinion was the chesney alpine! Link to comment
Bobby Connor
Do it yourself Boof. I did mine and it was dead easy. Presuming you already have a chimney then you just need to pack it out with that fireproof insulating stuff and you are good to go. Link to comment
Bobby Connor
Just pack it around the up pipe. I swapped a gas stove for a multi-fuel. It was no bother at all. Link to comment
spamspamspam
Completely different but may help... We needed to get quotes for the roof to be pretty much stripped back, all the wood treated and some replaces, re-felted, slates fixed, guttering the works... pretty much the whole roof replaced and repaired. Took guys up from Glasgow, cost almost half the price it would from local companies. Thats with them staying in hotels for the whole time and I would presume all other expenses (food, petrol etc) as well. Try guys from Dundee/Inverness boof if you cant get a decent quote here. Might be a lot cheaper. Link to comment
The Hulk
Boof, did you ever get this sorted? We used The Fireplace Shop in Dufftown, they charged in the region of £1700 for installation of ours (similar sounding to your job, liner in existing lum and fireplace), and we live in Phd so it was a fair trek for them and they did a really good job (this was 3yrs ago)There is another lad who is a plumber or heating engineer to trade, based out Kemnay or Monymusk way, who I think used to play football for Lossiemouth - Errol Watson? - who does this as well. No longer have a number for him but you should find it if you need it. Link to comment
The Boofon
Aye. Greenbrae Stoves in Hopeman. £600 cheaper than the one in Keith and the one in Portsoy. Fitted on 17th December. Superb. Heard nothing but good about them. Link to comment
